I agree that there's zero reason to explore strongholds. The Eye of Ender leads straight to the portal room, so you can just dig straight down into it, and forget about the rest of the stronghold.
The only addition I would make is to add a maze in the strongholds or stronger mobs, maybe even make them infinite(3 around origin, other points spread out about 5km where more stronghold triplets spawn, each triplet has its own dragon and the dragons would drop 30 levels, not 100)
I also agree with making eye of ender target the entrance but the eye of ender wouldn't target stone, it would target the portal particles, so it doesn't make sense.

Sorry, but that is completely stupid.
1st. There is a library, which has enough bookshelves to make enchantments of level 50 or even more, its a great idea to explore it to take all the bookshelves and make a massive enchanting house.
2nd. Every real minecrafter knows that precious and unique materials should be collected once they see the opportunity, mossy stone brick and cracked stone brick are both unique and rare that look incredibly awesome in builds, that is why collecting them is important.
3rd. A lot of other materials like iron fences and iron doors, and the great exploring value they have.
4rd. As you said, the ender portal which teleports us into the end, which gives us massive amounts of obsidian, the unique enderstone ( you should collect atleast 2 stacks before leaving ), and obviusly the 100+ levels as a reward for killing the dragon.
Obviusly you have no knowledge at all about Strongholds, once again the argument doesnt convince me of why strongholds should be re-made in the stupid idea there is in the OP.
If someone is able to give me a serious argument of why strongholds should be re-made then do so , because until here i just see complete nonsense

Now you're making it sound like I called strongholds utterly useless. This is not what I said, and it is not true.
The End is a unique realm in the game, and it should be explored. I always try to finish my Survival files.
once again the argument doesnt convince me of why strongholds should be re-made in the stupid idea there is in the OP.
Once again, I never said they should. I don't even remember half of what the OP said.
It seems like you took way more out of my post than I ever actually typed.
1st. There is a library, which has enough bookshelves to make enchantments of level 50 or even more, its a great idea to explore it to take all the bookshelves and make a massive enchanting house.
This is pretty useful for enchanters, I must admit.
I agree that there's zero reason to explore strongholds.
And you cant deny that.
All the reasons i gave in my post are valid reasons of why Strongholds are one of the greatest and more important features for a minecrafter, adventure and building materials join together in the stronghold.
You did say they were completely useless, with other words...
" Zero reasons to explore a strongholds " and there it is in your post
I meant there wasn't a reason to LEAVE the portal room and EXPLORE the REST of the stronghold.
The stronghold is still useful, because it has the portal room and access to The End in it.
I know. That would make it so much more cool to find a stronghold because if it's completely underground then how to the "people" who made it get in :/

1. The thing about that though is that you can make bookshelves on your own. I'll agree that those are already made so they are useful but they aren't as useful as you claim them to be as by the time you find them you should already have access to bookshelves of your own. I know that before I even find a stronghold I'll have a good Sugarcane farm for my maps and bookshelves.
2. I'll agree with this one but that still doesn't feel like a good enough reason to explore the stronghold itself.
3. Doesn't this argument go with your second reasoning? In that case look above for my answer to this one.
4. With the obsidian thing you may as well just go underground and get them from there. Their much easier to get (They're a little harder though.) As for the second part of this argument it's basically what you said from your second argument So I'll agree.
So basically your entire argument is that you explore the stronghold to get materials. That makes the stronghold useful but not enough. The stronghold is meant to be something more than just a farmers dream. It's supposed to be a part of getting to the end not an "Optional ore". You give good reasons for going to the stronghold but to me, they're not good enough.
i agree that that it would not be such a good thing if you could just dig strait to the portal room and skip the whole stronghold maze.
i also agree that there should not be any indestructible blocks.
how about if all of the stronghold blocks take a long time to mine like obsidian?
of course we wont want it to always take that long to mine stronghold blocks, so it will follow certain conditions.
stronghold blocks will take a long time to mine like obsidian if:
-the portal room has not been found yet
-the block has never been mined
(for those who may not fully understand)
stronghold blocks will NOT take a long time to mine like obsidian if:
-portal room found
-already mined then placed agen
so once the portal room is found, you can mine them at normal speed. if you mine some of the stronghold blocks without any intention of look for the portal, you can still build whatever you want with the stronghold blocks and it won't take as long to mine back. that way if you make a house of stronghold blocks and make a mistake, you don't have to take forever to mine it back just because you didn't find the portal room.
sorry if making long post for a simple idea. i just find that if i put an idea up without making it "stupid proof/resistant" it gets taken out of proportion.
My opinion of why those surface entrances where removed is because then it would be too easy to find a stronghold, no need to make ender eyes, just walk 500 block on one direction and you will see the entrance, after that looking for the portal would be a piece of cake however we will still need the endereyes, but that is not the only purpose of why i go to strongholds... my main goal when finding a stronghold is the library... gimme em lvl 50 enchantments :smile.gif:
It all adds to the challenge of beating the end
There should be two types of strongholds then. One that is more ancient (being buried under the ground), and a more recent one, with an entrance at the surface. The surface ones wouldn't be as big.
If someone is able to give me a serious argument of why strongholds should be re-made then do so , because until here i just see complete nonsense
I'll give it a go.
First of all, I think it is safe to say that strongholds were made with adventure in mind. They were designed to be an adventure to dicover and explore, killing monsters and getting the loot, and eventually to get to The End
However, I think that part of the playerbase is dissatisfied with how strongholds turned out, with little challenge or real motivation to explore them. Some players that are interested in building and such may be interested by the unique blocks found there, however the players that play for adventure, which the strongholds are aimed toward, are disappointed by how little strongholds provide in that area.
A complete redesign is, perhaps, not neccessary. However I think that some attention is needed to improve the experience of strongholds.
I pretty much revamped the entire idea into something I think is a little better. First off the Stronghold will be unlimited but the Portal will be limited. Second, Stronghold Caves will be a new underground Biome that will house a Complete Stronghold and a Portal. Third, traps will be limited to the stronghold caves as with most other strongholds, they would be separate or incomplete. Forth, items are much more prevalent and wealthy in Stronghold caves than in Strongholds (though they still exist in regular strongholds.) Finally, The stronger mobs will only exist in the Stronghold Caves because if they existed in regular strongholds that'd be rather bad for your newb player without good enough armor to take them on without taking a heap of damage or even dying.
and add juggernauts and have 7 predatormissles??? joking great idea but maybe add new dangerous places like pyramids in deserts iglues with evil eskimos in snow biomes and tribes in rainforest that look like squidwards but have green on there faces and maybe have tree houses and jeb should totally add an alpha world type.. i miss alpha anyways cya miners :biggrin.gif:
Ok as I've stated before your perfectly entitled to your opinion but just so you know alot of ideas that are on minecraft now came from the forums and not the developers.
I'd also like to ask what's so bad about it? Is the idea itself just bad or do you think the strongholds are fine just the way they are. I would like some input here but if you truly think the idea is bad then don't answer me.
Strongholds are fine the way they are. And I just don't like your idea. It is poorly thought out and is too eager to amaze and challenge the player in combat only. Minecraft, as it is, has a delicate balance of combat and mechanical difficulty that the current strongholds strengthen very much. The challenge isn't supposed to be sacking the stronghold, its finding the stronghold. The right stronghold.
Plus the technical aspects of implementing your "better than anyone else's" idea would mean diverting energy to completely changing the terrain generation code, something the community is tired of.
And also you used the wrong fourth; you spelled it forth.
P.S. Name 5 ideas that are in minecraft that Mojang has publicly stated as originating from a forum user, and not the developer.
i think that ALL strongholds should have speshal caves as you described, not just the ones that have portals.
that way you would need eye of ender to tell without fighting your way threw.
1. Make the amount of strongholds in the game unlimited but make the portals in the strongholds limited. (5-10 on any world.) Strongholds at the very least are a good source for stone bricks which would make them a value to have but Portals are meant to be the last challenging aspect of the game. (In that they lead to the end.) Portals should be limited to a close but hard to find Strongholds to make them into more of a commodity challenge. If this were the case the Eye Of Ender should lead you to the entrance of a Stronghold that has a portal in it. This way the Eye of Ender will still have a use in that it wont lead you to the nearest stronghold that more than likely wont have a portal in it.
Increasing the ammount of stronghoulds, im sorry to tell you, its going to be a BAD idea and in sort way you are contradicting yourself... let me explain myself: You say strongholds should be challenging, now if you add more strongholds waht the real challenge about that? You could find strongholds anywhere so finding them wouldnt be a challenge and you even whannt them to be on "close range". Plus, finding more strongholds make them more common and less rewarding. ANd then you want an entrance on the surface when you actually can see where the stronghold is making it more easy to find.
2. Make the "Stronghold Cave" that would house the Strongholds with portals in them. A Stronghold Cave would store a complete Stronghold in it that wouldn't be connected to any other underground area like caves, Ravines, and mines.
Kinda agree with this, kinda not. Stronghold are agey buildings that survived for years and were burried or built underground, that makes any building to start collapsing and breaking. Some aspects of the "incomplete" or broken/cracked strongholds give them a ruin aspect i like.
3. Make Traps for the Stronghold Cave. This can be from rigging a button that would open a door to a despenser that shoots arrows at you or it can drop mobs (minus Creepers unless their far away, Silverfish because they'll burrow into the wall and wont drop down, and enderman because they'll troll their trap.) or even making some new trap exclusive to the Stronghold.
This is going to be a very annoying programming tastk my friend. Notice that all the "complex" structure generated by the world are quite simple as the villages. Adding redstone, pistons, dispensers and whatnot to make the trapes would make the programming and the placement of the stronghold harder.
4. Fill the Stronghold with treasue chests with different things like ores and stuff. This way it'll be more worth it to find and explore a Stronghold. The Stronghold Cave should have better prizes and more chests in them.
This only works if the stronghold is really challenging and not so common but since you said you want strongholds easy to locate and more common doesnt makes much sense.
5. Put stronger versions of (and/or maybe new) mobs in the Stronghold Caves. This way it'll be a nice challenge for those people who want to make it to the end. The end game is supposed to be challenging and even notch wanted it to be way tough. Make it tough enough so that you'd have to go in there with some strong armor and maybe some enchantments to get through.
Mojang is working on the mob AI and honestly they are making a good job and its going to make mobs harder to beat so its no need to add more types or harder mobs for a certain area since after all mob fighting wont be so easy anymore]
I used to write original signatures, then I took an arrow to the knee.
I also agree with making eye of ender target the entrance but the eye of ender wouldn't target stone, it would target the portal particles, so it doesn't make sense.

Vast majority? You know that there were only 5 right. I believe they "I loved it" vote was still ahead.
I changed the second vote to give it a more neutral feeling. (If enough complain I'll change it back. Luckily that didn't reset the poll.)
