Now that villagers have gained some AI to be able to open and close doors, it made me think about what else they could do.
First, i thought of a barter system that could be plausable. Gold coins would be a craftable item for this, i think using gold nuggets in a 2x2 or 8 around the crafting table would be good for the recipe, not sure, but this would then make 1 coin. they would also sometimes be in chests in dungeons, abandoned mines....
But with these now you would be able to go to villages and by right clicking on NPC a chat screen of some sort could pop up and trade items would be an option. Depending on wat kind of villager it is they would carry differnt items that you could buy. Blacksmiths would have swords armor ores sometimes diamonds, and the rarer the item, the higher the cost (naturally). Not sure how the pricing would be, but you could buy basic supplies that you may need and cant find. Also u could sell items to them too.
Next thing i thought of would be wandering travlers who would be like the same deal as the villagers, trading and all that. Plus if u happen to be within range of one and you are fighting a mob they would then jump in the fight.

How about NPCs able to do whatever their job is (i.e. farmers protect the crops and harvest the crops that grow, and replant with any seeds, blacksmiths smelt any ores into metals, librarians let you check out some informative books from the library (once books become readable)).

Please click the dragons, they need to grow. Also, my fully grown dragons can be found in my bio.
As for items you couldnt find any where else, differnt colored wools, ingrediants, mabe nether items on rare occasions, mossy cobble, just stuff thats not common.
As for the questing system, alot of ppl agree with this, i think it could be cool as well. Mabe the farmer asks you to go find some bonemeal for him or kill some of the mobs that are around his farm... You get the idea, simple quests, im not sure of how hard quest could get or the task you have to complete
