Remember the old world gen? Like alpha or early beta? Well if this dream were realised, you could revisit those old maps that so many people, me included, miss without downgrading and missing out on all the other new features!
It would be another option in the world settings (like normal and superflat settings) that would simply use world generation code from a much earlier version of minecraft. With individule settings for different map generation scripts already in place, this idea should be fairly easy to implement. This idea is better than downgrading because:
You can keep up with current servers without constantly upgrading and downgrading!
All new mobs and items are still there!
Strongholds and villages will still be generated!
Your beautiful map won't be scarred with those darned beta holes!
So if you would like to relive the old without throwing out the new, support this post!
So you want less biomes, but you still want new stuff in them?
Isn't that a bit redundant?
Also, I've never seen a beta hole in my life. And the very first time I've ever seen a chunk error where a mountain was cut off was yesterday. I'm not sure where you people are getting this whole "current generation is seriously buggy" thing from.

omg will people stop asking for this it is the same concept that is in the mod in my signature just go there.
Posting "there's a mod for that" is a warnable offense. That's the title of a pinned topic on the suggestion forum.
Besides, as a mod, servers can't use it.

I don't see what the problem is. This is very simple to implement and with 'new stuff' he just means you keep the new HUD and you can still craft the new things and mobs remain the same.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
