So let's face it, we all have visions of what we want in Minecraft and because of this some of the most talented modders in our community have come forth with their fabulous creations. Now some mods completely take Minecraft in a different direction, but there are some small or special mods that add new abilities or features that fit with the feel of our beloved game. It is my belief that since many of these mods are already in existence that there is no point in recreating the wheel. Now, I'm not saying Mojang should from now on just take to getting the new concepts from the most popular mods out there, but I've compiled a list of some of my favorite low impacting mods that I feel should be within the "vanilla" Minecraft AND my reasoning. NOTE: In writing this I did not take in account of difficulty of programming, strain on the engine, or other factors. These are just my views and thoughts.
Reasoning:
The whole point of Minecraft, in my opinion, is to mine and explore, but these resources go towards building homes, fort, castles, and cities that range from the humble to beyond extravagant. However, these shelters are usually lacking in furniture. Through innovative use of what we already have, fans have been able to create couches, fire places, bathrooms, and other little pieces of furniture, but they're still always sparse. The mods I listed above all tend to this issue and, when combined, allow for beautiful, haunting, and unique decorum. Being able to add a functioning kitchen that provides some unique and handy features, down to having proper hidden passages, and even a cute "nuclear family" backyard or a dastardly torture chamber, would give our vast fortresses their own personalities and make living in them a purpose over shelter from the night. To further strengthen my argument, Minecraft already comes with basic furniture--jukebox, paintings, and bookshelves. It seems these additions would a logical step.
Reasoning:
These additions seem minor, but are profound in the immersion they add to the game. One of the beautiful things about Minecraft is seeing how the world changes around you either through your actions or, more recently, mods such as creeprs and Endermen. These mods make the world feel alive (especially when used in conjunction with some of the other mods that will follow) and while I don't necessarily agree with all the additions--Golems from Mo' Creatures are much to overpowered--they allow for you to feel as if you're part of a breathing world. For me one of the most boring aspects of the ocean biome is the sheer lack of interesting things out there. The coral and water mobs would add considerable life to an otherwise tedious biome. I know my small island home would feel much nicer if I could see a dolphin swimming around from my dock. Furthermore, it would be wonderful to see more realistic life and death of vegetation and for the world to not just pause while you sleep. With a dynamically changing world Minecraft would feel even more expansive and interesting when two trips to the same area might produce completely different sights.
Reasoning:
For starters I know there is murmuring about zipline already being incorporated, but I wanted to list it anyway. Zipline is an interesting concept that adds another function to the bow, but also creates a brand new way of travel. Often I find myself wandering and find a ravine that I'd love to scale down, or a mountain that looks like it'd had a killer view, but lack a means of easily achieving either without hacking into the environment. Zipline provides a missing form of travel. Going on my need for immersion there's a certain level of immersion that's broken when you are walking with a torch in hand, but no illumination is produced. Similarly, I feel it weird that the Minecraft world is devoid of women! Minecraft has a huge female fan base, and while Steve's texture can be changed, I feel having a female avatar (along with female mobs) would cater to a wider audience and give a uniqueness to avatars and males and females.
Reasoning:
Of course the Aether would be here, and why shouldn't it? It's possibly the most polished and impressive mod created. It adds an entire new realm, amazing functions, fun mobs, and new adventurous gameplay. If the rumor mill is correct, there is still talk of a skylands, but I seriously think Mojang should sit down with the developers of the Aether and find a way of incorporating it. I know Notch expressed wanting his ideas to be original, but why recreate the wheel when you have a perfect sky realm already created? As for the Nether Expansion, this is something I've pondered and was on the fence about adding but decided it's a great mod worth noting, if nothing more, for the concept it presents. With the inclusion of enchanting the Nether finally has a use, but it's still largely a boring place. The Nether Expansion make the world livable. It's quite possible for experienced players to visit the Nether and actually dig out a worthwhile home. The additions it adds are not to everyone's palette, but as I said, the concept of being able to live int he Nether and giving it more a purpose is something that should be further investigated.
Anyway, here is my rant and suggestions. I'd love to hear feedback and your thoughts be it positive and negative!
PS: I didn't see anything specifically against the rules about using mods as the base for a suggestion, but I apologize if this isn't the best way of making suggestions.
None of these should be added to vanilla because all of them are already available as mods. Anyone who wants them can use them, and they aren't forced on people who don't. Adding most of these to vanilla would **** a tonne of people off, seeing as many of these cause serious performance issues for a lot of people, and many, like the aether, are simply very divisive.

Just because it is a mod does not mean it should be ruled out of consideration with such disregard. The piston mod was overwhelmingly popular and was eventually included into Minecraft. Furthermore, as I noted, there is rumblings of zipline, or components of said mod, being added already. To rule out any features for future additions simply because there is a mod of it is asinine. With the sheer number of mods out there, almost every idea has already be marketed. Plus, if certain mods are popular, it would be foolish for them to deny the overwhelming majority (not saying any one of these mods is the most popular but in general) because it would upset some. If that's the case, there should never be a new update because, heaven forbid, a fan dislikes something added. There's also the issue that progress can't be limited because some computers can't keep up. A baseline should be maintained for medium to medium-high end computers. Minecraft has slowly been growing and every update required slightly more resources. Some users of low end computers simply can't cope anymore, but that doesn't mean update should be limited because a marginal section of the community has outdated technology. That's how the computer industry works.
Maybe I wasn't clear, but I was using these mods as a basis for my suggestions. I was in no way of advocating for copy and paste implementation where these mods are simply absorbed as is, though I do think there is precedence for certain ones to be considered.
The point of turning some mods into vanilla is for simplisty, mostly for the MP Servers, every mod you add to a MP server complicates it more and more, you end up with 20 mods and you got a 1 in 5 chance that something is going to conflict with something and then you'll have to ditch that mod because of conflicting third party code. Adding good mods like mo'creatures, female gender, aether, nether expanse would drasticly reduce MP error's and only benefit the game with a wider variety of minecraft life and places to explore as well as a nod to our female members who are tired of being flat chested boy-girl box people.
On the other hand I agree some mods should not be added because of issues such as the Nature mod listed above, some people build natural enviroments, tree houses, mega trees, maze gardens and any mod that would effect the life span
to the point their creations might wither away would be very unfair to the players who choose a more organic buiding
style. Issues like these need to be brought up and addressed before they even consider using an idea that a mod had
developed, and there is also the issue of property rights with the mod's creator.
Our modding community if frankly Nuts.. we got pipelines, airplanes, windmills, gunships, machine guns, gernades, werewolves..... Its Crazzzzzy, but it sure is fun. I love most the mods out there they do such an amazing job but
while some are fun such as airplanes, they might not truely fit into the minecraft theme, where as an air ballon might
and not everyone wants a high tech minecraft. I would preffer a sailboat over a speedboat myself.

I'm not saying any idea from mods should be off limits, but Jeb feels that at this point large expansions of one element of gameplay or dramatic alterations to gameplay are better left to mods. He's planning on focusing mostly on the engine, and letting the modding community handle most of the content. Adding mods to vanilla would be a waste of his time.
