Wolves are sure useful, but I feel that combat with AI directed allies is kinda lame with only wolves, so I put some ideas for allied mobs in this thread to see if there is at least one person with the same thoughts as me.
They would be found in the jungle biome, it would has the same rarity as slimes, feed them 6 porkchops/steak to tame them, you could only have 4 of them you could also put a saddle on them and ride them, they are basically better wolves.
Pigmen(based on my old thread)
Health: 10 hearts
Damage: 2,5 hearts
Armor: 1/Random (depends if the player want more armor on them)
Pigmen in the Nether can be "des-zombified" with porkchops (3 cooked ones or 6 raw ones) and would use their old golden swords but could also be equipped with bows (would not require arrows) and armor (iron or leather), they would use radios* to reply to squad commands, they can use the portal to go the overworld with you but they would never go back to the nether, you can only have 4 of them.
Find a village with a church, give the priest 10 gold or 2 diamond, he'll join you, and an random villager would become the village's new priest but would not join you, they would cast energy balls, due to the rarity of villages they would not be killed but be incapacitated instead, you would have 2 minutes to save him, when he is saved he would regenerate 2,5 hearts, they can use radios* like pigmen to reply to commands, you can only have 2 priests.
Blue slimes
Health: 8 hearts/4 hearts/2 hearts (vary on size)
Damage: 4 hearts/2 hearts/1 heart
Armor: None
Find a slime in a cave, feed them lapis-lazuli, you will tame them, it has the same behavior as wolves, they'll split when killed, feed them slimeballs to attach them together, you can have 8 of them. (This does not apply when splitted)
They are INSANELY rare, having 1/20 of chance to spawn instead of a Red Dragon*, she (yep it's a she!) is the most powerful ally, after taming she with 4 Diamonds, she'll request you to make a 50x50 cave in a mountain so she can put her egg, which will hatch when she die, an baby green dragon will grow fully after 6 days in minecraft, she has 6 blocks of height when standing, 2 blocks when landed, you can have only one green dragon, no more green dragons will spawn if you have one. (in SMP they can only be spawned by console commands)
They are found in oceans, tame them with 10 fish, they can pickup fish in the ocean for you, but you have to give bread to it after every pickup, It can be ridden, acting as a faster boat, you can have ilimited amounts of them.
You can give a gold bar to a farmer villager, they'll give you 2 bread daily, you can have 10 of them, they also would attack some monters if you get attacked on sight.
Monkeys
Health: 8 hearts
Damage: None
Armor: None
Monkeys appear in the Jungle biome, you can tame them with 6 apples, they would scavenge apples from trees until they found 4 then you have to give watermelons to them.
Red dragons have a 1/60 chance of spawning in the morning when you're on the surface, but only after 3 days after spawning in Minecraft, they have the same behavior as the ender dragon and can shoot fireballs that don't damage the terrain, but puts the player on fire if they don't have armor, there's a chance that 1 in 20 of them will be an green one, they arrival can be seen by the "Boss health" bar appearing on the top of the screem.
Others
Radios
Used to give orders to any ally that is equipped with a radio, left click when equipped would show a menu with squad commands.
Squad commands:
1. Move to that position. (allys move to a certain block)
2. Follow me! (they will follow you)
3. Patrol this area. (they'll randomly wander the area in a 4 blocks radius)
4. Stop! (they'll stop)
5. Attack! (they'll attack all hostile mob near your crosshair)
6. Hey [name of ally] take this. (inventory opens up and give item to selected ally)
Stamina
Pretty much like the hunger bar, when stamina is low attack damage will be reduced by 1 heart, stamina is recovered by sleeping or eating, they'll tell you when stamina is low. (this does not apply to the tiger)
Healing them
Tigers can be healed the same way as wolves. Pigmen and priests will require healing potions or full stamina.
Seeing their health and stamina
A health and stamina bar will appear over their heads when they join you, the health bar will be green and the stamina one white. (tigers health can be checked by the tail just like wolves)
Replies
Replies are made by allied mobs on radio, Pigman would do oinks and priests would talk gibberish in an elder voice as the reply appear in text.
Could the priest be a healing allied mob? That might be kind of useful. I think allied mobs would be a lot better in general if it were possible to revive them when they die, otherwise I feel like a jerk forcing innocent woodland creatures to accompany me while I **** around in giant caverns filled with lava and skeletons and junk.

How about monkeys that scavenge apples from trees when you have low hunger?

A food gathering mob might be a good idea, for those people who don't like having to take time out from hitting things in the face with swords to farm. Today Jon tweeted that he's working on a use for ocelots, I'm wondering if they might do something like that. Maybe bring you fish or other stuff that they kill.
Added Monkeys, Green and red dragons and blue slimes and other things, Oh and removed second pool.

Also, it would be cool if someone made an "I support" banner to this thread!

I think there should be fish that swim in the water.
At least on my world they are hard as hell to find. 6_9 And yes I kow they are pretty common on superflat.
Also, added Farmers and Dolphins.
