It's time to buff dyes. Why? Because dyeing wool is obsolete compared to dyeing sheep. By coloring a few sheep, and breeding them, you can make infinite renewable supplies of any color wool you want.
The fix is simple. Right now dye can only color one piece of wool at a time in your crafting grid. I suggest that it be buffed to allow you to dye up to an entire stack of white wool with a single dye.
If you can dye white wool in bulk easily, then it makes a little more sense to keep using dyes beyond just coloring a few initial sheep.
1. You still need the dye in the first place to breed colored sheep
2. Do we really need to start an argument over how easily it is to obtain a cosmetic block? I mean, if it was something that gave you health, I would agree, but this barely affects game play.

I'm not trying to make it harder to get cosmetic blocks. If anything this would make it easier, since it would provide an additional option for dying wool. You could still breed colored sheep too.
That does seem like a needed balance, especially since sheep now regrow wool.
I think dyes also need more uses besides just aesthetic blocks. Maybe crafting paper with a dye (plus optional redstone/glowstone) gives you a one-use magic scroll.

I don't like this idea. Dyes would be WAY too easy to use. Breeding sheep is more difficult and takes more time than just crafting one single dye with 64 freaking wool blocks.
It's perfectly fine the way it is now. It's surprisingly overpowered the way you suggested it.
You don't even need to breed them. They eat grass to regrow wool and each shearing gives 1-3 wool as opposed to just 1 from crafting.
I imagine dyeing wool in a crafting bench could only go up to 8, as it doesn't recognize items in a stack. The max by hand would be 3.

Keep making epic ideas.
