Cauldrons, made originally for potion brewing, can only hold a limited amount of water. Which, in my opinion, is not very useful when you can just place a water spring block for infinite potion water. As a hard mode player, I always wanted a way to store my XP before going on a troublesome part of the game. Why not make it possible to drain your XP into the cauldron? They can hold a limited amount of XP, just like water, and can be given back to the player (Maybe making it not 100% efficient, so it would cost a little bit of XP to store it?). If you agree/disagree with this idea, please click that little green on the bottom right of this post or post your own comment on how you think it should be done.
TL;DR: Use cauldrons as XP storage, tell me what you think.
If this idea was already discussed, please tell me. I don't like stealing other's ideas.
Side-Note: Cauldrons can be used for aesthetic reasons like a sink or bathtub.
But then it's practically save scumming. There is little punishment for death.
Well, keep in mind that someone would have to put their XP in the cauldron before their death, which they may not always see coming and thus the xp is still likely to be lost. Also, there's always shame and loss of inventory upon death. :tongue.gif:

I don't like this idea to be honest. XP was made to make the player loose something when dying, so they can't just die all the time and not loose anything. With a possibility of storing XP, their purpose would be gone.
I agree that caldrons are pretty useless though.

XP wasn't added to make dying more punishing, it was added for enchantments. And players already loose their inventory (and some of their pride) when they die.

That's why it wouldn't be 100% efficient, And it would only hold so many levels of experience. I think loosing items is also a punishment for death, but if you can afford to make a bunch of chests, you are safe. Cauldrons need 7 iron ingots, so it is mostly a mid-game item, which can help you when you go into end-game parts like the Nether or the End.
Cauldrons can be filled in increments of 11 xp per right click, up to a maximum storage of 33 xp.
The only way to remove the xp is to drain 11xp and place it in a bottle o'enchanting.
When a bottle o'enchanting is thrown it drops 3-11 experience. So you lose xp until you get back the absolute maximum the bottle can give. If you average it out, you'd only get back about 7xp for every 11 you store in cauldrons. And it costs you a glass bottle, since it's a splash potion.
So using cauldrons would slow down the rate of xp gain, but it would provide a bit of insurance while exploring, it'd let you stockpile large quantities of xp ideal for low level enchanting, and it would provide a way of making the bottle o'enchanting in survival mode to trade to other players. It also lets many players pool their xp and give it to one person.
Its easy to get levels in the begining so you would need more space or there should be a way to increase space to store like gold because gold hardly has any use.
