The new staff member of Mojang, the one developing the new mob AI- John, I believe?- has already made some nifty changes in the snapshot releases. Zombies have better path-finding (sorta) and Skeletons actually posses some measure to live by seeking out shade and water when it's day. I think I speak for everyone when I say that I cannot wait to see where things end up a month or two from now. However, there has been a glaring problem with the mobs ever since their conception: They lack the ability to prioritize their targets. Let me explain...
Me and a friend are playing together on a server, and we're both down in a cave together. A creeper, which is a few blocks below my level, sees me and comes towards me. Due to my elevated height, it cannot reach me and will continue walking towards the wall in vain even while my friend casually walks up behind it and lays a smackdown with a diamond sword. A preferred scenario would be the creeper turning around and heading directly towards my friend once it realized he was the greater threat, closer, or an easier target to reach.
Another hypothetical situation would be me and a friend are in a straight tunnel together. A zombie comes down the hallway after me, and when I back up, it will walk past my friend without a single thought to change targets. This doesn't make much sense, and it's such a common issue that I think most have simply accepted it as the status quo- or rather the way things are simply meant to be. I say this only because I've yet to see anyone else ever mention this oversight in the AI; no offense to anyone else that has considered this.
I don't normally offer critiques or suggestions for Minecraft, but I felt my thoughts on this were worthy of posting. Please offer your comments and ideas, everyone.
That makes a lot of sense, and shouldn't be hard to implement. I like the idea of zombies and such being able to tell where the threat is, and the ability to realize they cannot reach the player and should attack else where is very easily attached the AI, I should think.
I also like the idea of a zombie being able to turn to other players, like, OMG HE CAN SMELL MY FEAR lol

I'm mainly interested (Horrified is a better word.) as to how Jonk will change the Enderman's AI. (Hint: We're all ****ed.)
Edit: I supported the idea on GetSatisfaction. :tongue.gif:)
