I have been thinking about some new mobs for the jungle biome in Minecraft. The jungle currently isn't all that interesting other than the occasional ocelot and the huge trees. I know Mojang is planning on adding more but I think we should start discussing some additions to the Jungle.
My first idea for a new mob:
The Black Panther!
I think this mob should spawn in trees in the jungle, but only at night. It could be one of the 'monsters'. This mob would blend in with the night and wait in high trees to pounce on unsuspecting Minecrafters. This would make a trek through the jungle much more difficult as well as scary. These creatures would be randomly spawned in the jungle and sit and wait. They would not move much but wouldn't need to. You may be thinking that a journey through the jungle wouldn't really be worth it, but what about adding a special item the panthers would drop if killed, such as a type of fur or a tooth to make special weapons out of. Possible even have a special item/temple that can only be opened at night guarded by panthers. This would make you want to journey into the jungle and face these creatures.
Too similar to ocelots. And if there were another cat in the game, my vote would be for a tiger. Monkeys, for sure. Maybe even add bananas that grow in jungle trees for them to eat.

I see where you are going with this but ocelots don't add a challenge to the game. All you can do is tame them and breed them. A black panther would make the jungle a lot more interesting. Frankly, I don't believe there is much of a similarity between ocelots and black panthers other than them both being cats.
I'm going to work on some model ideas for monkeys, and also anything else I get an idea for, and also throw some words around about how they might work.
I'll edit this post when I'm done.
(It'll just be computer-sketches, because I suck at modelling.)
It's very unlikely that anything in this thread will get added, but it'll be fun.
Omfg its the guy who suggested jungle vampires!
On topic: Why not make ocelots hostile to you unless you are holding a fish in your hand? Or maybe its a 50/50 chance that they'd attack you upon sight if you weren't holding a fish at the time?

What do you say? Good idea or bad?

If I were you, I'd do exactly the same thing as you would, because I'd be you. Duh.
