Now let me say this first, I'm probably going to get a lot of hate for this but I think Iron and coal need to be less common than they are. In my opinion gold and diamond have the right amount of rarity but I just find iron and coal EVERYWHERE. Making Iron and coal less common can make it seem like a blessing when you find it and you can also have those good old memories back when you first started playing(unless you just started)Now whenever you get these you feel like, "Oh good iron and coal..." but if it where less common you'd think to yourself, "Yes! I finally got some iron!" or "Yes! I finally got some coal!"
All I want is that awesome feeling Minecraft used to give me back when I was a noob...

It seems ever since 1.7.3 the iron and coal veins have become increasingly common. I think I'm alright with having a ****-ton of iron, but I'd rather coal be more rare as it is a main part of starting out in Minecraft.
1. We dont need the rate to change, Its perfeclty fine the way it is, plus, It helps with survival
2. You can use MCNostelgia to go back to the way it was instead of complaing to the forums (Its okay if you say there is a mod for that as long as you contribute to the suggestion to)
3. For coal, it wont make a differnece since you can make charcoal, so basically for it to be less common we would need to remove charcoal
Honestly, if the occurrence of veins of iron/coal were less common, that would kinda suck. Sure, I myself have about 15 or 16 stacks of iron ingot in my fav world, but I am also planning on making a city. If ores were reduced, no one would be able to legitly start and save up enough iron for such a thing (rails, ironblocks, iron tools, etc.). The way it is now doesn't seem to be too much, or too little for me. It is just perfect. But then again, that is just my opinion I suppose.

Hahaha, your third point made absolutely no sense in any variation what-so-ever. I'm cracking up xD

How did it not make sense? lol, hes basically saying that you can just cut down some trees and cook the logs up in the furnace, and presto! You have coal (charcoal really, but its exactly the same thing, just with a item name)! So basically, as long as coal isn't just so over-spawning that its what half of caves are made of, then it should be fine. lol.

You do make a good point about that. Maybe there could be an option for ores to be less common than they are when you generate a new world. I don't know, but every time I play SSP I end up with more Iron and Coal than I know what to do with and quit the world.

We don't want the game becoming too easy and predictable, do we? I want minecraft to last forever (which it probably will) but when you can "beat the game" and get all the ores so fast the game starts to lose its charm and I just quit.

these are so common because they are the main ores of minecraft because you can make the most important with it
But I usually end up with like 9 stacks of iron that I don't know what to do with. I guess another solution to this would be to give iron and coal more uses.
