did you even read the thread title? it says "MOBILE".
Whats the difference of playing in the computer nd the wii if they are both at home?

I see what you're getting at, but as Andy.F.M said, the point is to have Minecraft on a mobile device, so you could play Creative Mode and Survival anywhere and play Multiplayer anywhere you have access to internet.
I really love the idea of porting it to the Iphone, as it is the only thing close to being able to run it out of all the above. Anything portable at least.
The DS?
No, two processors running at 67.028 and 33.514 MHz respectively, and 4 MB of mobile RAM (upgradable, but still) aren't even close to being able to run minecraft (correct me if I am wrong)
Whereas the 3GS has a 833 MHz processor and 256 MB of ram. Seems a bit more capable, eh?
Also the iphone supports OpenGL 2.0 and up to DirectX 10.1 Shader Model 4.1
Aso compared to the DS's main core is the only one even capable of vertex 3D rendering.
Now while Java isn't natively supported it can be used on a individual program basis if I'm not mistaken.
Also there are ports, emulations and jailbroken porting apps abounding on the net for iphone-java relations.
I dunno, just something to think about. I don't see it happening anywhere in the near future, but it'd be nice.

Well, the 3GS's processor is actually underclocked to 600 MHz, so I'm not sure how much of a difference that'd make. Other than that, hardware-wise, the 3GS would be a pretty good candidate. Though at the same time, if Minecraft were rebuilt entirely from the ground up for the DS, I think it could definitely work. After all, Minecraft doesn't have the most advanced graphics in the world. Maybe bring the fog a bit closer to help, but I think it could be possible.
Another device that could be a possible, and maybe even more likely mobile home to Minecraft would be the Nokia N900. Hardware wise, it's got the same processor and GPU as the 3GS, an extra 768 MB virtual memory contributing towards RAM, a bigger, higher resolution screen, and a hardware keyboard. It also runs on a Linux variant, which means Java should be possible on it already, not to mention increasing the possibility of bringing the processor back up to it's 833 MHz default.
Overall, though, I just want some way of playing Minecraft in a more portable fashion. Closest thing I've been able to find, would be to use an HP Mini 311 netbook, cause it has the Ion GPU instead of one of those crappy Intel integrated GPUs. It actually runs Minecraft at over 60 FPS. On the farthest fog setting. Unfortunately, it's not quite as portable as a DS, or a phone of some sort.
The Atari ST has a mouse and keyboard, I expect a port then seeing as no one cares about memory or graphical limits.
I see what you did there..
But you're saying that as if people are talking about porting it to a system that can't support it. I'm sure this game can be created an optimized to be playable on a DS or DSi. Given the current specs of the DS and especially the DSi (though not all of the DSi's functions can be tapped into yet), I would say it's definitely possible.
Many people here are trying to compare the DS/i's specs with the PC specs of the game, which honestly makes no sense. Minecraft would indeed need a rebuild to work properly on the DS, not only because of the graphical and memory limits, but because of what it's coded in.
The Nokia N900 is a great idea, its running linux, isn't it?
Android - another linux distro. But thus far, I don't see as many people owning phones with it. But this could change in the near future.
I made a quick image of what it could look like on the iPhone/iPod Touch:
Main Screen:
Creative Mode - No restrictions. Sandbox. Obviously.
Survival Mode- Just like Survival mode but mobile.
Multiplayer- I don't know if large maps would be hell on the iPod, but mine seems to load a map as large as the LA map for Gangstar: West Coast Hustle, and it's pretty big, so I don't really know. But it's just like Multiplayer, but again, mobile. Works by WiFi.
Player Levels- Two slots on account of memory space.
Log In: Obviously, it would go to another screen with where you would type in your Username and Password so you could save maps on Survival or Creative, and play on Multiplayer servers.
Game Screen:
Version, Fps, & Chunk Updates- Self explanatory.
VAnalog- The virtual analog stick for movement.
Crosshair- Just like in the game, except you tap it to place or delete blocks.
Chat- Two lines of chat come up, can be extended by possibly a small button beside it.
Block Selection- Three to four blocks, double tap a block to bring up the whole selection of blocks, like B with the default Minecraft settings on the computer would do.
B/D- Could possibly have these shortcuts written on them (as they are.) Stands for Build/Delete. It would be on Build at startup, and have a B on it. Once you tapped it, it would change to Delete, and a D would be on the button instead of a B.
J- Jump. Tap it to jump. (Obviously.)
A- Arrows. Shoots arrows when tapped.
M- Menu. Tap it to bring up the Menu with Options, et cetera. Along with a "Player List" for Multiplayer.
Anywhere on the screen- Two uses.
--One: Tap, hold and swipe to look around.
--Two: Regularly tap to attack with your hand in Survival Mode.
I just hate how cluttered it is. : (
But I think it could work. But that's up to Notch to decide, eh?
Oh, and the bad thing about having this on the DS version is that you would have to wait until it was completely done to have it on it.
On the iPod, you could have it be updated on account of WiFi. Unless you have WiFi access with your DS.
You can use a wii controller on a DS. But can you imagine the looks you would get waving it around on the subway. Not to mention being arrested for shooting mobs and accidentally pointing it at someone while doing it.
But hell imagine the calories burned mining gold....crunch,crunch,crunch,crunch,crunch....People would think you were having a seizure.
Sign the petition! Keep the minecraft player model! http://j.mp/mcftmodel
It doesn't fit with the blocky/pixel theme This is really going to turn off many fans and start bringing in those annoying anime obsessed teenagers who turn minecraft into a meme infested shithole. -pubby8
I did not pay for AnimeCraft. I paid for minecraft. - mochi
My home-run desktop can rival or surpass what you get for a decent hosted server, and running three to five servers doesn't cost hardly any cpu, and fair amount of ram but is nowhere near maxed out. Most lag is client-side.
I could be wrong, but from what I can tell:
You can't run the same client-side jar on present mobile devices. Even an an iphone comes nowhere close without a teeny tiny map and a major code optimization. This is just a dream for now.

What about the HTC? Notch loves that thing of his so much he'd even make love with it.

And thats why I'm sticking to my guns about the iphone idea.

Though, nobody is going to be looking o the blackberry as a gaming device.
Therefore, iphone.
The saddest part of this post is that I don't even own an iphone.
