They have no idle option and no use other than harassing your chickens which is annoying when you are getting eggs they will teleport into the chicken pen and massacre the poor Cluckington family!
They NEED an idle option and a use.
I suggest in their idle mode they be allowed to pace about 3 blocks from the block they are idled on, to give them an active look for people who just want them to sit about the house.
Yes they are small but Ocelots are hunters, so I suggest they at LEAST be able to combat silverfish, making them valuable when mining in strongholds, they will aggro silver fish. Maybe warn you of silver fish blocks by bouncing around any silverfish infected blocks. (I'd say to also let ocelots aggro spiders, but minecraft spiders are HUGE haha)
Maybe vermin could be implemented at some point to give ocelots more of a purpose to protect farms, allowing ocelots to walk on farm land blocks with out destroying food.
I think in idle mode cats should wander around in your base (safe areas) not too far away in say, a 50 block radius of where you tell them they can idle. They would do things like:
walk around
sleep on bed (making the game say "Bed is occupied" if you try to use it), sleep on blocks higher than the floor, or sleep on wool blocks
fish
ect.
they will behave based on how they feel about the owner, based on:
how safe your base is
how much room your base has
what kinds of floor you have
how well you protect them
what they can sleep on
can they fish
how often you have given them milk (right click them, or the bowl if Mojang makes bowls place-able)
how often you have given them fish (drop the item towards them, or the bowl if Mojang makes bowls place-able)
ect.
A cat will not follow you if it is sleeping or if it is unhappy. Dogs will not chase cats, but maybe they will growl at each other until the cat swipes at the dog making it whimper and run and hide lol

Maybe they could disable a spider's wall climbing ability within a certain radius, perhaps by disorienting the spider in some mysterious way? It would offer an alternative to building overhangs on all your walls.
As of now they are like smaller wolves, so maybe they could have different combat methods, and idea that i had earlier is that i would do half the damage of a wolf, but it would be faster and due to it's light weight, it would be able to thrown, and then it would do half a heart MORE damage than a wolf.

Be caring, please help my dragon hatch by giving him a little click.
I am chinease. My grandma said she loved eating cats. Or was it dogs? I don't remember.
Anyways, you are aware that silverfish are not fish and they are bugs right?
Yes I know silverfish are bugs, as fish do not tend to burrow into stone or be furry bug like creatures. Nonetheless cats hunt bugs so it isnt out of the realm of possibility.

It doesn't matter, cats will try to hunt bugs. Especially if they move fast.
I am trying to make an update for ocelots as simple as possible which is why I havent added a ton of features, these features are just to make ocelots more workable in the next update, more like wolves. I dont really think mojang will go to that extent for a vanity pet to give it a social AI and interaction with various blocks, that would have to be a whole other suggestion honestly. Right now just aim for simple.

The way I see it, Jon (the AI guy) was hired SPECIFICALLY to code the mob AI. He's new. The ocelot and cat is a rite of passage for him at Mojang, it is the first mob made entirely by him (excluding the textures which were made by jeb_). If any mob would be this advanced, it's this one.
I'm not saying add all of it at once obviously. Maybe just a wait function at first (by next week), then idle, then idle activites (sleep, fish, mob encounters, ect.), then sleep preferences, then after all that is polished, the loyalty system.
Actually I just had a thought... cats should not be healed by food entirely... but by sleeping and fishing! This would give them an extreme advantage over wolves as they would not require food from you to heal, but free time and a nice home. :smile.gif:
Also, they should jump 2 blocks high and not get fall damage from huge drops (like maybe they start getting fall damage at 10 blocks intead of 4?
So, should I put all of my ocelot/cat ideas into my own suggestion thread?

they should be able to distract hostile mobs from you, maybe you can throw a i dunno, cat toy? at a enemy like a snowball and the cat will run after it, they will scratch/bite the target and then the enemy will chase it. the cat will run away to the nearest tree, then the enemy will resume chasing you
