If any of you have tried to use redstone, you know how annoying it is. What I mean by this is that when you place two pieces of redstone together, they automatically connect to each other. What I think would be cool is in the options, you could turn on something like "Redstone Toggle". If this was on, then every time you right-clicked on redstone, it would toggle its shape no matter if redstone is adjacent to it. Redstone would only power blocks/wire that it is pointing to, and only take power from blocks that it is pointing to. If "Redstone Toggle" was off, redstone would behave like it usually does (except that already placed redstone would not change its shape).
A few other ideas:
Floating wire. It would be crafted like this: (where | is an iron ingot and 0 is redstone)
|0|
|0|
|0|
It would act just like normal redstone, but it would not have to be placed on a block.
Also:
More logic gates like the redstone repeater. For example: NOT gates, AND gates, OR gates, XOR gates, XNOR gates, RS - NOR latch, etc...
Each one of these would have a toggleable delay like the repeater. However, instead of simply right - clicking to change the delay, if you right - clicked on one of them, it would bring up a GUI asking how much delay you wanted on the repeater (0 ticks [a.k.a. instant wire] to maybe 30 ticks).

One of these days I'm gonna think of something clever to put in this signature. One of these days I tell you....

Edit:( Laggy computer posted too early... )
Redstone torches inherently act as NOT gates, and redstone wiring already acts as an OR gate (a repeater makes it 1 way). Furthermore, were logic gates to be added, the NOT versions would probably just be a waste, since you can easily put a block with torch in front.
I'd much rather have the few features added to this game be features that everyone would want. As much as I love redstone wiring and NOT gates and all that good stuff, most people don't. It's horribly complicated and strange. It doesn't even make much sense conceptually. I just feel that Mojang's time could be better spent on other features.
As for the actual suggestion, I disagree with the toggle shape thing completely. It just makes redstone wiring even more of a pain that it already is. And not only is floatng wire expensive, but it has almost no practical uses and it would look soooo horribly out of place. The logic gates are DEFINITELY something that I would absolutely LOVE to have. I've wanted things like those added to vanilla for so long. It is a 1 step process to making redstone both easier to learn and more compact. However, I don't like the right click for delay thing. Repeaters get the job of delay done just fine.
While we're on the topic, I'd also like redstone to transmit an instant signal instead of a delayed one.
The idea of controlling redstone direction/connection would be nice. Alternatively, another user (I forget who) suggested adding "bluestone" which would be redstone, but would never connect to redstone.
The idea of convenient single block logic gates or such would, in my opinion, further limit the number of users who do create simple/complex redstone circuits by inhibiting practical learning.
Perhaps if there were learning specific servers for users to be taught real time then the simple blocks would be just time saving, but I feel that the process and thus the accomplishment would be poorer experience because of it.
I do think that redstone, circuits, and logic gates do need some more added functionality though to aid in the building of complex machines, etc.

Yeah I guess... But the XOR gates would be a HUGE space saver.

If you didn't like the toggle redstone thingy, you could just turn it off in the options. Simple as that.

Anyways, easier redstone is not what minecraft is about. I keep telling my freind that Minecraft is better than ROblox cause minecraft is more complex and is harder. Now he'll never beleive me.

How would it work on servers?
Click for penguins in minecraft!
Creepers. That is all.

You would still be able to connect redstone. You'd just have to right click it to change its shape.
