In a nutshell: Animals will flee if you are holding their respective meat.
Hello folks! If you're like me, you enjoy running an extensive animal farm to keep up your food supply. Of course, once you reach a certain point of crowdedness, the animals tend to be able to squeeze their way out of opened gates. I have an idea to fix that.
It's really very simple: If you are holding, say, raw beef or steak, and you walk up to your cow pen, your cows will go as far to the other side of the pen as possible– they know what that meat is! The same goes for pigs and porkchops, chickens and chicken.
This could also be used for herding specific types of animals. Say, if you hold chicken while around chickens, they will not react to you holding wheat for about ten seconds, allowing you to herd nearby cattle or sheep without attracting any chickens.
Another idea is to use Rotten Flesh as a universal repellant– holding it repels all nearby passive mobs, not just one type, unlike the meats.
What do you guys think?

Great idea, but I'm not sure you should have to slaughter an animal first...
A sword would make much more sense.
It would make more sense, but it would not reasonably have the selective repelling ability that meats would, and might make slaughtering more difficult.
On another note, I really like the ideas you have in your saddle enchantment thread.

Or maybe animal repels. Cause flesh is stupid. Animals probably don't know what beef is? The'll be thinking, "whats this flat thing? And why does it smell like me?". Same with chicken. The'll be like"hey there chicken. Where'd all your feathers go?". see what i mean?

I wouldn't want to make things more complicated than they need to be. No need to introduce a new item when already-existing items would do the trick just fine.
