I was thinking that we could really use some more vehicles besides the boat. I got a few of these ideas (partially) from the post earlier about caravans.
First off a cart, which can either hold a player (Imagine a boat but on land) or a chest to carry your stuff in. This can either be pulled by the player (Showing them down a bit) or with the addition of a harness can be pulled by a cow/horse (if they are added).
Construction would be simple, use wood to make a boat, then with some sticks and planks (or some new item) make four wheels (one in each of the four corners) and the boat at the middle. Then with some leather and sticks the player can craft the harness for the animal, other wise if the player has string they can right click the cart (Or rope can be added as an item).
To attach the animal you'd need to lure it over to the cart with wheat (Or I suppose meat if you wanted to use a wolf)and then it would connect to the cart.
The only issue I cannot really address is how you could control the cart if you were using an animal, other then leading it with wheat (or meat).
As for items here's a quick list:
Rope - made up of 4 pieces of string, can be used to tie animals up/lead them (once tamed) or as an alternative ladder/vine.
Wheel - Made up of sticks and planks ( or some thing like that), I was thinking a stick in the middle surrounded by wood planks?
Drill - Made out of three diamond (One top middle, then in middle left and right) with iron at the base and redstone at the center, faster then the Diamond pickaxe but requires constant refueling (see fuel below)
Fuel - Made out of Gunpowder, Coal, and redstone, it creates the "fuel" powder, which is essentially just an improved coal, so it can be used in furnaces too instead of coal (but due to the gunpowder I'd suggest it be used only for the drill)
Refueling station - Made out of iron and redstone two iron at the top left and right and two down the middle, top middle is for redstone. Once placed the player puts the fuel in there, then right clicks with the Drill to refuel it (can be further expanded to many different items)
Hat- Made out of wool, changes color based on the color wool used (Black red yellow etc.) offers little armor, mostly for vanity.
Vest - Same as hat, for vanity, made out of wool.
Pants (Or some name like that)- vanity, made out of wool.
Just noticed that there was another post just made involving a drill, I won't edit it out because his drill is like the Quarry from Buildcraft and mine is a handheld improvement to the pickaxe, but be sure to check out that post too!
At first, I thought you meant cars and modern vehicles XD. Anyway, sounds good, seeing as we need a average vehicle that doesn't need track or is water-based. Great idea!
I was thinking about that, but I don't feel that's truly in the spirit of Minecraft, or at least not yet. So far the game is keeping to very low-key powered items (Like the railways), keeping most of it to manual (Boats) work instead of being powered by something.
Then I realized we don't really have a good land vehicle.
Something else to add on, the cart can go up one-block level differences, but not up say, straight up mountains.

That is an awesome idea! I totally support that, and made a post in that thread too, that'd be freaking brilliant to see in the game.

It allows for creating custom vehicles using simple rules instead of pigeonholing people into using specific, hard-coded vehicles.
