1)Piston timing: I just spent hours duplicating an elevator design (works in single player) in SMP. Since the pistons are going off at different timings (with random additional delays), the elevator glitches, and leaves the passenger behind.
2) Animals glitch through blocks/fences/roofs in SMP.
3) Mobs glitch into and stuck in blocks. (Very visible with slimes)
No reason to be an ass. I know why it happens. It doesn't need to. If all the timing happened client-side or server-side, then it would not happen. The problem happens because there is checks on both ends without referring to a single master clock.
It's not Minecrafts fault that you don't have an internet that is so good it can communicate with the supernatural.
ARRRGH!
You fans are not the intended audience to my comments. Those bugs are for the developers to see and fix. I have high-speed fiber from Verizon. No amount of internet speed would fix the SMP problem which I hinted to in the message above yours!
I agree with you fans. Minecraft is awesome! Everything can be made better...
That's how most multiplayer games work. It lags. You'll need a super internet for it to work just like SP. Plus the host will also need a "Super Internet".
Internet = Lag.
There is nothing you can do to solve this. It's true for every game in existence. It has absolutely nothing to do with "checks" for pistons and animals being server-side or client-side. Unless, of course, you plug your computer into a NASA grade satellite dish to get a better internet signal.
The mobs glitching through fences is because they are programmed to see a fence as 1 block high rather than 1.5 blocks, so they try to jump over it. This glitch has been fixed pretty well in SSP in the snapshots, and will soon be fixed in SMP (as stated by Jon). As for the glitching through ceilings, that is a combination of the jumping thing and lag. The piston issues is almost entirely lag.
