I've been thinking about steel and iron. Steel is considerably stronger than iron but requieres iron to create. To make steel you have to smelt iron. Jebb could add like a new block (refinery?), which is alot like a smelter. Steel could be classified as better than iron but not as fast as gold (a mix of the speed of breaking blocks like gold and the nonbreaking of iron). Also, there could be a new currency system in multiplayer or even singleplayer if jebb adds money exchange between the player and the native villagers (alot like the millenaire mod). The currency could be coins such as copper, bronze, silver, and gold coins, which are made with new ores. I've been craving for a forge system (a similar way like in Skyrim) where lava is required in a pool (this could be how you make steel instead of a refinery), also a sharpening stone could be used to make steel or iron sharper (alot like enchanting).
So basically the steel idea is a diamond pickaxe thats extremely easier to obtain? What would be the point because you basically just described an easy to get diamond

Steel is not created through heating iron. Its something that is done by many mods and is not only completely not factual but also brokenly easy to create. Steel is made by combining iron and carbon. You might substitute carbon for something else, like how Bethesda switched it with corundum in Skyrim.
I do like the grindstone idea. So you could spend levels to improve a weapon or tool? Sounds awesome.

Minecraft makes me feel like I'm three. Playing with blocks and afraid of the dark.
