With the 1.1 update, we found a new map type "Super Flat"
After seeing this, I wondered to myself "What other map types could there be?"
I thought of a few, here they are! :smile.gif:
1. "Classic" map
Spawns a map that would be spawned as if it was in Alpha days(no swamps, lots of mountains, maybe that lovely shade of bright-green grass, etc.)
2. "Custom" map
This map style would allow you to "customize" your world, by selecting which biomes you want to be able to spawn and which generated structures you want spawned(villages, dungeons, strongholds, mine shafts, etc.)
3. "Challenge" map
This map style will be spawned with limited trees, water and grass, will have no structures of any kind, will be available only in hardcore mode
4. "Endless Biome" map
This one's simple; Decide which biome you want to be spawned and it will be the ONLY biome that will spawn. If you choose a Desert biome, you will either be given some supplies from the beginning, or you will have to search for Oasis's which will have a little lake, some grass, and 2 or 3 trees
5. "Endless Darkness" map
Another hardcore only map, this map will be purged in an endless night, make a shelter as fast as possible if you intend to live!
Finally, 6. "The Great Sea"(Why yes, it is a windwaker reference :tongue.gif:)
There is an enormous ocean, with small islands all around it, some inhabited, some abandoned.
What do you think? post a reply with some map types you've thought about if you want :smile.gif:
IDEAS FROM OTHER USERS
Kaelvin:
Underworld:
"since this is afterall Minecraft, why not a huge underground world much like the nether, but of regular over world materials, with no surface area accept the ones you make, underground strong holds could house special items such as saplings and tall grass, mushrooms, vines, eggs, and all creature spawner items. Glowstone spawning might become a necessity for this underworld map. And naturally monsters would be able to spawn wherever light does not touch."
My opinion: Love it :biggrin.gif:

No. four through six are a must in my opinion!
by definition a ravine is not a 'structure' the description of No. two and three both state that ravines are structures, I would substitute Ravine, with Mineshaft options instead :smile.gif:
a suggestion if I may, a new map type 'UnderWorld', since this is afterall Minecraft, why not a huge underground world much like the nether, but of regular over world materials, with no surface area accept the ones you make, underground strong holds could house special items such as saplings and tall grass, mushrooms, vines, eggs, and all creature spawner items. Ah. thanks :tongue.gif: will do!
I like that idea. I'll add it to the list(credit to you, ofc.)

yeeeesh! this is a great map idea, no need to give me credit the inspiration came from this thread :wink.gif: add to the idea if you would like to!!!
I love the Great Sea idea, having villages pop up in the middle of an ocean that you can explore, then finding little stray islands with neat little trees and flowers that you can horde to your main island, it is like shipwrecked/castaway survival challenges but with a huge backing on the map!
