boring nether rack!
I propose a aditon of some rare ores, to the nether.
my fist idea is dream-gems (unless you can come up with a better name)this is symbolism to all the rare minerals lost to creepers and random lava flows, kinda like river Styx but minecraft. if mined it drops a random material (flint, coal, iron, gold, diamond, lapis, or gunpowder.)this is more to ensure that it is physicality possible to get out of the nether.
my other idea is magnesium ore if dug with anything other wooden tools it explodes. simply put.
i enjoy the magnesium idea a bit, however 'dream ores' is just like...no

Good Idea, but..... then MC just wont be MC anymore.....you know what I mean. It's like installing a mod (i.e. "the Aether Mod"), it just wont "feel like the "vanilla" game anymore.
I think the random drop ores could be kind of cool, actually, but it's not very Nether-y.
it wold be like say a miner has found diamonds and has all these plans or dreams for them, but something happend they fell into lava and burnt up.
say instead of that being that, say the raritys were sent to there own personal hell.
buried deep deep under mountains of nether rack and lava.
you can liberate them.
Lead - Mildly explosive, same rarity as iron and found on all layers. If hit by lava or a ghast fireball, creates a minor explosion, the effect of which is compounded with each additional block involved in the reaction. Ingredient in poison potions, usable as a weak fuel in furnaces, can be smelted, required for some crafting designs.
Sulphur/gunpowder - The Nether is, more or less, a freaking huge volcano. Where there are volcanoes, there's usually sulphur.
Silver - Similar rarity to gold, has a multitude of uses, one of which being forging into weapons and tools. Silver is somewhat weak, but boasts a natural damage bonus against undead when used in weapons. Also an ingredient in alchemy.
Malachite - Pretty much the same as lapis lazuli in terms of usage, more a decorative thing than anything. Same drop pattern and rarity.
Titanium - Somewhat rare, although not as rare as diamonds. Usable in crafting designs for armour, weapons and tools, with durability/usage figures somewhere between those of iron and diamond. Average enchanting potential.
Bloodstone - Incredibly rare, a component for crafting and alchemy. Replaces the blaze powder in the crafting design for Eyes of Ender, and craftable into several unique and incredibly useful utilities (possibly enhances enchanting?)
Personally I think there should be an ore set for every world bar the End. That's me, though... and I don't know just how many worlds Jeb is planning to add.

Needs to be nether oriented...sorry!

Fire ore: lights mobs on fire (probally not needed since we have fire aspect but would make cool armor :biggrin.gif:)
Blood ore: has a random chance to cause a small explosion damaging mobs near you...Try not to be too close to your house though :tongue.gif:
Blood ore? Minecraft have been non bloody ever since notch changes zombie pigmen to be green.
