Avoiding death in minecraft can be as simple as digging a hole 3 units deep, jumping in it, and closing the top.
I believe that creepers in hardcore mode should prevent this.
Creepers should explode after the game determines there is no viable path to Steve and he is less than 10 blocks away. Creepers should also leave the ground by the explosion on fire, much like a ghast's fireball. If a creeper has a clear shot to a chest, and the chest is closer than Steve, it should move to it and explode.
no lol.. how about creepers are removed from the game and add better enemies.
WHAT!!!! NO CREEPERS?! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR CREEPING MIND?!! SHAME ON YOU I HOPE THAT TEN THOUSAND CREEPERS ATTACK YOU IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT-IN REAL LIFE!!

That would make creepers far too dangerous to purposefully built structures. Maybe a good idea would be for a special rare creeper to shoot exploding, ghast-like fireballs instead of destroying itself. This would be more deadly and not as easily avoided.
The problem is balancing danger and that element of fun with not ruining the player built world. If the creeper can attack you through a dirt hovel it can also attack you (and ruin) your brick palace.

The key is hardcore mode only. Players won't build magnificent structures in hardcore, just basically functional hovels (to steal your word).
This will force you to rethink house design, and encourage deadly lava defenses, secret passageways, and guard wolves.

Actually that does sound like a pretty cool idea to have to put more thought into the defensive structure of your buildings. I think it would detract to make it 'hardcore' only though. Maybe we could steal an idea from Terraria and make it so you have to summon boss monsters using certain crafting techniques.. or have a 'blood moon' when the creepers and stuff really go crazy.. and make that toggleable with in-game settings ?

True dat :sad.gif:
I don't see how this idea leads to RPG elements, not that they are good or bad.
Explain?
