first of all please forgive my English but its not my native language !
ok . so i saw a lot of suggestions about the seas and oceans in the past few weeks .. people asking for boats evolving , others asking for sea mobs and some asking for bigger seas (oceans) .
so ill put this together in 1 thread to make it easier to code and to understand what we (players) need .
we want creativity , that's what MineCraft about .. right ? so making boats evolve is useless . we aren't making any new things here , so we ask you notch just to make some physics in the sea .. i mean when u put a wooden plate directly on sea it float if you put another one on it the first one goes under water and the second 1 stay over it , and if u put 3 stones or any non wooden thing on THAT wooden plates they all sinks . its very simple math equation : if (number of wooden plates > non wooden plates + (your character = 2 stone blocks)) the ship float . the other thing we need is some physics system to move the ship it can be paddles for small boats and u make it out of wood and to move the ship u just right click on the sea , (maybe u can give paddles to snow men and they power it ?) , or u can use the power of wind , and that will lead the coder to make the wind change directions , (you need to make a sail out of wool to power the ship) and for bigger ships we need to make a red stone circle to power and direct the ship .
that what we need to make ships/floating houses , MineCraft players are creative enough to make a clock out of red stones .. this will be possible for us . we will start to make THIS :
thanks ThesaurusRex84 for the picture .
second thing : we need a deeper and bigger seas .. i mean WAY deeper and bigger seas , Right now the Ocean in Minecraft is rather, well, dead. There are a few squids and that's it. It should be a whole another world down there.
we cant use the big ships physical system i suggested if we dont have a space for it . i mean whats the point of making HUGE ships and have no where to sail . and it must be deep , VERY DEEP so we can make the ships we want .. as i said in the physics system if you put 4 wooden plates on top of each other on the sea only 2 will be over the sea and the other 2 will be under the water . thats how things works in real life so we need a very deep sea to be able to build what we want .
ok for people who didn't understood the physical system yet ill just put examples :
putting 1 wooden plate on the sea will make it float , 2 wooden plate in top of each other will make 1 go under water , putting a stone in top of them will make both of them go underwater but the stone will stay over water and it wont sink putting another stone (2 wood 2 stone) will lead it to be exactly water level but it wont sink , adding another stone will lead it to sink .
and by sink i dont mean like you are imagining (a big ship starts to flip and break...etc) it will stay the same and stay balanced but start going under water !
and if it got .. lets say 4 blocks underwater (1 block per 3 seconds) you can't save it .. its gone for ever .
ok now that we have the ship we wanted we need a reason to sail . we want a real challenge . because I ( and most of the players) dont see a big challenge in the SM , mobs cant enter your house no matter what they are , so we need a big challenge in the sea . most players get bored of playing SM in single player after a while . because they can just stay at home and they will survive . nothing forces them to go outside so in sea it will be different , a real challenge .
some potions must be changed and some of the elements must be far far away in the deep ocean , dropped from sharks/whales/fish...etc some block types must be only existed on ocean's bottom and you need to craft something to be able to breath and dive there .
i suggest the following sea mobs with some details :
sharks .
existed far from the beach .
attack you when near , might harm the ship while trying to reach you . causing it to sink if over harmed (calculate broken wood blocks).
whales .
only existed far far away from the beach .
they are very rare but they dont attack you when you are swimming in the sea unless you attacked them first , they might attack the ship and they wont stop even if you jumped into the sea, they break the wooden blocks in the ship causing it to sink .
Octopus .
only existed far far away from the beach .
they are kinda rare but they attack you and if it touched you it grabs you and dive deep underwater and it wont let you go unless you kill it , they dont attack the ship unless you attack first using a bow .
Crabs
Crabs are a source of sea food, and would scurry along the ocean floor, at shallow to medium depths. They can be attacked, and will run away once attacked, rather quickly. Killing them fast will be easy, but it will have to be done fast or they will get away from Steve as they are far faster in the ocen than him.
Drop: Crab (food)
the crabs idea is quoted from : "Redacted" .
Treasure chests and Sunken ships .
its really fun to go deep in the sea and look for treasures . who need an adventure mod ?! this is a real adventure and will make the SM a real challenge , you have to dive and move underwater to find them , fighting skills underwater = half to make it a real challenge , you have to craft a mask and wear it in the helmet place to make you stay underwater longer , and a blue bar will pop up in the top of the screen of how much time you have left before losing the crafted item you find ships underwater , might be ships for real players in SMP , or a ship made by the game , you have to go INSIDE the ship and look for treasure chest , Octopuses usually stay in those ships and protect the chests , you also have to craft a rope to stay tied to your ship and be able to climb back to it (you can also place a ladder on the side of the ship to climb and go inside it ) .
that's all i have for now ,
special thanks to ThesaurusRex84 , Redacted .
please make this thread about sea/oceans - related suggestions and ill pick the best suggestions and add them to make it easier for notch to find it .

I like this idea very much, expecially the larger oceans. As for propulsion of a boat, I think that the propulsion power would have to be relative to the amount of blocks being pushed.
Hmmm, ocean mobs. I think that other additions might be:
Tuna
A fast moving mob that moves in large schools. Will not attack the player, unless the player is in it's path, in which case it would knock the player aside and cause a small amount of damage. It would have low health, but would move at speeds much faster than the player can move. (especially in the water)
Drops: Tuna, scale(i dont know why, but it's be cool)
Eel
A singular mob with large amounts of health. Would only attack player if player comes within a 6-block radius of it. It would not stray away from it's point of spawn on the ocean floor.
Drops: Eel Meat,(A meat that heals the same amount as bread, but has 3x the chance of poisoning when eating it raw) Eel skin (Same as leather(interchangeable in crafting recipes))
Puffer fish
A slow moving mob with very large amounts of health. Would damage the player if the player touches it.
Drops: Puffer fish meat(same as steak, except with a 20% chance of poisoning, even when cooked)
I dont know if you like these ideas, but there they are...
Haha, I'm glad you liked my crab idea! =3
Here's my thread- http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/961676-massive-ocean-improvements/
for others (obviously you went through it!) It contains all the ideas I had for Oceans.
I'm glad to see others support a more lively Ocean!
It makes me so happy to sea(see what I did there?) someone reference me =3
I like the whales idea of having something that would attack ships specifically. I'd hate to lose my ship however. The whales should definitely have a valuable drop to balance the risk v reward.
