Intro:
Hey guys, This is a suggestion topic on how jungles can be improved upon, tweaked and turned into a interesting biome! Now, as you might know, Jeb released snapshot 12w03a a few days ago and included the following: Monsters can be spawned from spawner eggs fired from dispensers, reverted ladders back to the way they used to be (pre 1.1), vines are now climable and a new jungle biome. The other things are irelevant to this post but I thought I would post them for you people who didn't know. Anyway, the jungles consist of large trees, new bark texture, and a new leaf texture for those trees with dense undergrowth and vast canopies. But, there seems to be something missing from these great biomes, such as new blocks, items and wildlife!

Blocks:
I know you guys love them! So heres the blocks that can be found and generate in jungles:
Quicksand:
Quicksand is not exacly a "full" block, you can sink in it like a liquid.. when you walk on quicksand you will start to sink and move considerably slow. It takes a very long time to break quicksand even with a diamond shovel. The more you move in quicksand, the faster you sink and you will actually start to float if you stop moving at all. Quicksand is a nuisance but is quite rare above ground and very rare below ground (it can happen!).
Mud:
[Picture soon!]
Mud is the rareish overworld soulsand. It doesn't slow you down as much as soulsand but it does slow you down and is quite easy to break. Theres really nothing else to it.
Termite Mound:
*Note that this a modified texture, NOT a modded block!*
The termite mound spawns the termite mob and are quite rare. When broken, all termites in the area will become hostile and attack the player. Not sure what it should drop, termite larva??
Plant Trap:
In comparison with dirt. *Not a modded block!*
This block is the only way that a carnivorous plant mob can spawn. When you get within 3 blocks of he block, it spawns a plant mob that will attack you (but they CAN'T move, but don't get cocky.... youl find out why later.). Every 30 seconds it spawns a new plant and can't be broken while a plant is spawned. It takes a while to break one of these blocks, and nothing can be placed on one.
Mobs
My personal favorite, these will spice up your boring old jungle. Keep in mind that not all of the normal minecraft animals will spawn here: no cows, no sheep.
Caterpillar:
Credit to Daveyx0 for the picture
The caterpillar is a large bug that spawns on the ground and sometimes in trees. The caterpillar is quite slow and wont put up a fight.
A large fruit bat that spawns in daylight in trees and glides through the skies, eating fruit from the trees. I have no idea what fruit thay would eat but since the only food in the game is apples for the time being, i guess they eat those.
The tree spider is a small spider that spawns in the daytime and becomes hostile at night, like other spiders.
Health: 5 hearts
Drop: Spider legs 0-3, string 0-2, spider eye 0-2
Behaviour: Neutral
Damage: Half a heart
Monkey:
Jon (one of Mojang's members) hinted about adding monkeys to the jungles. I'm not going to put any info here because the mokeys are up to Mojang at the momment.
Carnivorous plants:
What it should look like:
The plant only spawns on the Plant Trap block when you get near it and cannot move. BUT, with the fact they can't move, they are immune to arrows and take extra damage from swords/axes.
Pigs are now replaced with a boar that spawns rarely but is hostile. They are also quite fast so be warned. The boar will attack anything that gets inside its territory and will threaten them if they get too close to their territory.
Only a couple at the momment but i will add more as i go.
Thornbush:
[Picture soon!]
The thornbush spawns like tall grass but alot rarer. The're effectively like a cactus but cant be harvested and only grow 1 block high. (also doesn't need space)
Coco tree:
A small tree that when right clicked, gives you some coco beans! This will healp if you easily want to find brown dye without all that effort! They can be harvested and the coco grows back but very slowly. They are rare though.
Items
A list of all the items:
Food:
Spider legs
Mangoes?
Fruit bat meat??
Plants:
Coco tree
Other:
Snake scales????
Misc features
Spider webs can now grow on trees in jungles.
The jungles water colour is changed to a green.

Well thought out, but I don't think there needs to be so many mobs. Carnivorous plants and caterpillars are enough. Boars are just pigs that can kill you, fruit bats are not the kind of flying mob I'm interested in personally, and tree spiders are just spiders that drop different things. Furthermore, why should no normal animals spawn here? It just makes living in the jungle more annoying when you have to walk out to find a chicken or something.

Chickens are the only normal animal in the jungle (I need to hit them with shovels).
However, i WILL put up a poll so people can vote on which features the like or not.wow, i just put this up a couple minutes ago and now ive gotten so many posts already :blink.gif:
The ideas sounds great, but I got one issue: Imbalance! Yes, I don't like the concept of having just one amazing biome, and the rest just... meh. Of some reason, the developers seem to add a spare amount of blocks to minecraft. By this rate, the world should be packed with material, but no, we only get one new log and one new leaf-block to this jungle update. And therefore I don't wanna waste those few blocks we get on boring "soulsand" or termites.
But to add on:
- We need darker plank (maybe vertical) from the jungle-tree. (unique plank from all log types)
- Suspension bridges would look nice, and "bridge-friendly" block over all. With bridge-friendly I mean like a half-block that is placed on the upper half of the block, and not the lower half.
You worked really hard on this and I think that they are good ideas. The only problem is with the trap dirt block that carnivorous plants spawn on. All dirt blocks on the surface have grass on them, so how can you even tell if there is a difference in shade to the dirt color. If there wasn't any grass on the dirt block, then it would be a dead give away while walking around the jungle.

put this in the mod ideas suggestions and ask for a coder

OT: GOod idea in theory, not sure about waterfalls though.
Waterfalls hate you now, I wouldn't go near them,
On second thought, go near them wearing sponges on your feet in a drees and shout waterfalls suck and I'll never fall down them!
