Early yesterday, I posted in the Minecraft Survival section on a game idea, sadly I didn't know it was supposed to be placed here. Anyways, I think Natural Disasters would be a great idea. For example:
"You're sitting in your Minecraft house one day, looking out the window, when all seem calms. Slowly, it turns to a minor downpour, and it gets plenty dark. You check your clock, and the Minecraft time says noon. You know what's going to happen, and you quickly grab your valuables and rush downstairs to your newly built storm shelter. Minutes later, you hear the loud sounds of glass shattering up from your Minecraft house. The tornado roars overhead, and soon enough, it's gone. You see about 5 blocks missing from your house, and most windows blown out. You had luckily made it this time..."
So basically Natural Disasters would be great, including Tsunamis and Tornadoes, and possibly blizzards. Blizzards would probably be easy to add, they'd only need to make it so snow piles up. Tornadoes and Tsunamis would be a bit harder to add, probably, but the results would be worth it. Simply hitting blocks and building a few structures each day isn't too exciting, and the occasional natural disaster would be great. Here's an example for the Tsunami:
"You're sitting on your beach house one day, taking a quick glance outside to the ocean, when you see a tiny wall in the background. Slowly, the wall begins to get a tad bit taller as it approaches. You know what's going to happen, and you need to act fast. You quickly get to the highest level of your house, break through the roof, and get ontop. Seconds later, it happens. The wall of water slams on land, swallowing things such as tall grass and crops, spreading temporary, but not quickly dissapearing sand on the grass. For a while, a flood follows the tsunami, mostly trapping you in your house, unless you have a boat. Soon enough, the water retreats, and you're left with your slightly damaged house and crops. You made it this time.. But will you be lucky the next time?"
This would be a great add-on to the game, as long as you're prepared. What do you think? :smile.gif:P.S. don't start posting MOD links for the tornado mod. I'm talking about adding it to the vanilla game. :smile.gif:
I think this is a great idea, you should have the option to turn it off, for those of us that are building epic things(redstone, castles, etc.). I have always thought minecraft should at least have waves and a tide, and seasons. Other disaster ideas: Earthquake, tectonic plates could shift apart. Tornado and tsunami are good ones. Volcanic eruptions, and large swarms of mobs are other ideas.
Also, so that you don't eventually end up with a world that looks like a griefer went tnt happy, the land should eventually repair itself(earthquake crevices close up, lava dries, etc.)
Dynamic forests/plants would also be nice, when you start a world you may have a small forest, but eventually the trees grow at least 3x original height, and vines could grow. Also, moss should be an object like vines, able to spread over any block if it is untouched for a long time/the conditions are right.(middle of an old/mature forest, etc.)

So why did I run downstairs?
