In exploring my Minecraft world in 1.1, I have come across the reintroduced beaches in a Taiga. This didn't look really natural, as there was no snow on it, and sand is something I associate with heat, rather than the coldness of a Taiga.
This got onto the thought of the biomes in relation to beaches.
The following biomes look good with beaches:
Forest
Plains
Mountain
Jungle (From the new Snapshot)
The following don't look so good with beaches:
Taiga; due to sand's association with heat, and it messes with the water's ice covering
Tundra; same reason as Taiga
Swampland; swamps don't have beaches in nature
Mushroom Island; breaks the fungal feeling
Desert and Ocean Biomes were not mentioned due to redundancy.
The solution is simple, a system of variation in beaches.
Tundra and Taiga: Here I see a chance for gravel beaches to be reintroduced! They are associated with colder places in reality, and their dull colour complements the coldness.
Swamp: Simply remove the beaches.
Mushroom Island : Either remove the beaches, or find some fungal substance that can be used to replace sand.
yeah very good point, beaches are good but not everywhere, i believe is not that hard to change the biome generation by removing beach-generation from specific biomes
