I was just reading a thread in the 1.1 discussion forum about a suggestion for a vertical form of redstone and thought that the only way that it could possibly work in minecraft (as it is currently) is for a 'redstone block' to exist. Then i realized the next best thing, redstone ore, already exists ingame.
All that needs to be done is to add redstone functionality to the redstone ore block. Think about it, it's already got active/not active states. Now if a mod could be made for this that would be awesome... and now i'll probably end up reposting this in the mod discussion forum for saying that...
Yeah. Um.
Back to the point Lol. I realize that there will be many issues/cpmplications that i have not forseen/overlooked while posting this suggestion but it would awesome for redstone builders to have a simple space saving method of transfering a redstone charge vertically would it not?
For the recipe, perhaps you could combine 9 blocks of redstone, or even sub a redstone or two for stone/cobble
For example:
------- OR -------
Where = redstone dust
Maybe it can be changed so that when mined, a redstone ore block will be dropped instead of redstone dust and so a set number of redstone dust can be crafted from redstone ore block or even a new block can created and used altogether.
So, what do you guys think?
Ps. If they think that im ripping their thread/idea (which i mentioned earlier), then i apologise to the member who posted it and will take the appropriate action with this thread.
I like the idea of it, the only issue really I see and its fixable is that when you break a redstone ore block right now you get dust and not the block. Other then that I think it could be a plugin on bukkit server soon :tongue.gif:.

What's the ID 26 block in that pic? Also, 55 on there is redstone as it exists now. What about just being able to place redstone on the side of a block, by the way?
Because redstone, like any object in the minecraft world, when placed takes up one block of space so it would be impossible to place a vertical piece of redstone next to a piece that was placed on the ground. Think of it as trying to place torches, placing one torch on the ground and one on the wall next to/behind it doesn't work.

No, no, no, not like that! It will still climb up 1 block things like it does now, except you'll be able to place it like a ladder to go higher than that.
Thats actually a good idea but then you cant branch off from infront of the vertical redstone. If there was some kind of work around to that, it seems to be even simpler and efficient than my suggestion. Kudos to you good sir. :smile.gif:
I suppose I don't really care if redstone would be placeable on walls anyway. It's more a thing that I like being able to look smart. So meh. Add it, that's cool, don't add it, that's cool too.

Curse Premiumblock id 55 is redstone so there is a redstone block
Because there is no way to get redstone block in game at the moment out side of mods or creative mode. Like I said, its a simple fix.

Here is how it works:
My view on redstone is that if it can be done, however complicated, we don't need something that would make it easier.
My view on heart transplants is that if it can be done, however complicated, we don't need something that would make it easier.
My view on feeding 10 billion people is that if it can be done, however complicated, we don't need something that would make it easier.
My view on going to the moon is that if it can be done, however complicated, we don't need something that would make it easier.
You see how that argument isn't valid?
I suppose I mean lazy people should stop being lazy and learn how to use redstone. It's really not difficult at all, for something basic like that.
Also, it is valid, because it's my view on redstone. Not heart transplants, not going to the moon, redstone.
Dunno if its updated to work for 1.1 and too lazy to check right now but there it is :tongue.gif:
