This idea can be considered "absurd", "crazy", or simply "unrealistic" (which it is).
I did put a lot of imagination into the idea, but it is poorly written and hard to be understood.
Currently, the only power sources are coal, charcoal, wood and redstone (correct me if I'm wrong).
Perhaps players should be able to crush coal/charcoal and redstone into new power sources; Lightstone and Darkstone.
Lightstone is made with redstone and bone meal, to make the lightstone white and glowing by the power of the skeletons you've killed.
Darkstone is made with redstone and ink sacs, to make the darkstone black.
The darkstone can be harder to make with a lack of squids, help me find an alternative solution.
The stones would have to be enchanted to work, to not look silly.
These stones have unique powers and abilities, they're not just dust - they're solid and hard to break.
Now, as you got your new stones in your hands, you think: "what am I supposed to use these things for?"
These stones still require power, coal and charcoal is required for them to be functional for your new weapon.
The lightstone use coal and light to work, functional at the light of a torch or other light sources.
The darkstone uses coal and light, too, but it consumes light into energy (lighted areas will be turned dark upon use).
The stones can be added to a bulky, cannon-like weapon with different abilities for your own use.
Building the machine
The cannon-like weapon requires one of the magical stones, a bow, and iron covering it for it to work.
The weapon uses the stones as power, as said before.
(please help me name the weapon).
The lightstone cannon fires a beam of energy to damage mobs (max 10 block range, requires light), while the darkstone cannon works more like the dispenser (place items inside and it fires, removes light at a 5 block range around it).
TL;DR
Make 2 new stones to be crafted used to power 2 new ranged items with different uses.

A lot simpler than... whatever that is.
