Leather: For every piece of leather worn, you gain 1/4 of your crit damage when you attack(you have more damage because the light armor is less hindrance) Gold: It already has the bonus of getting good enchants easily. Iron: You take 10% more energy and move a tiny bit slower(semi-tank). Diamond: You take 20% more energy and move a tad slower than iron.
"What do you mean by gaining 1/4 crit damage?"
If you had no leather pieces on, when you jump-crit you would do regular damage. For every piece of leather worn, you sacrifice armor for damage and speed.
"What would pvp be like after this change?"
There would probably be an influx of people who feel they would be skilled enough to battle in leather. Eventually those who prefer armor over damage would wear more iron/diamond and it would even out.
This has nothing to do with realism, for the sake of gameplay this would give reason to wear the most usually avoided armor set in the game.
Also to note: Those who want to keep up this critical damage would have to keep up their armor set, this is the price of being the ultimate predator. One could even balance by making a set half diamond and half leather.
"Minecraft pve still feels easy with iron/diamond set."
This is for those who want a challenge and a bonus for it. No more of the, "Why don't you downgrade and pretend MC is easy." Now people will downgrade armor for a reason.
Edit: Every non-armor spot is same bonus as every Leather-worn spot so you still get regular jump-crit bonus naked.
No. Just no. There should be no balancing for diamond armor. It's really hard to get and anyone with a legit diamond set should be able to enjoy it. You want to try and make some shmuck in leather more competitive with someone in diamond armor? That's totally against the point!

Grammar and spelling mistakes.
Anyway, on topic now, I think this just makes armor a bit too complicated. So nah.
... -Facepalm- Please, spell grammar right before pointing out a mistake made by someone else.
