A pile block would be a way to use 7 of any resource to make a pile, simply for show. A gold pile, for example, would be crafted like this-
The block itself would resemble a pile of gold coins. The same could be done with diamonds and lapis, and coal piles can decorate furnace rooms and things like that. Bales of wheat can decorate farms, and piles of gunpowder can be put near the cannons in a pirate ship. There are tons of possibilities!
The blocks mechanics would allow for players to walk onto them like half slabs, and the height of the player would be around 1/3 of a block, low enough to make the illusion that their feet are sinking into piles of gold.
Right clicking the block would grab an item for easy use, the block has 7 uses, and gets smaller with each click, for example, the gold pile would keep getting smaller, until it becomes just a few coins scattered on the floor. -Suggested by Sarolveldruk
I think these would be great decorations. Please comment with feedback and contributions :biggrin.gif:.
seems like its an interesting idea nd it would go along way to decorating houses or farms or whatever else you want to decorate i mean i always wanted to stack wheat up like hay in the back of my barn for my animals

I thought of this as a mod but never bothered sharing it. Anyways, I think it might be hard to imagine looking at a pile of gunpowder and try to figure out how many uses there are left, also what the heck would you do to coal? I think everything that isn't easily stackable (ingots and maybe other stuff...) should appear as a pyramid of five crates that have pictures of the item on the side. Then you can craft a crate by putting the item in the center of a crafting table and surround it with eight wood planks. Then you can place a crate. by right-clicking a block while holding something other than a crate, and place one by right-clicking a block while holding a crate. Then to get back the item simply put in into a crafting table and there you go. What do you think?

Well I think I speak for most people, and at least myself, that the decorative abilities play a big role in the pile block.

We already have this.
I want to swim in my gold, not just walk on a floor of it... it's just not the same.
Perhaps right-clicking on a pile would let you grab an item for quick use.
Like a cake with 7 uses? That might be cool.
Added one.
I like this. I like it simply because it is aesthetic. Plus, it would be fun with cookies!
