Something I've been thinking about since the fancy lighting update awhile back was having the option for stained glass blocks and panes and hopefully changing the color of the light that passes through them (except white, greys, and black, which would lower only lower the light level of passing light by a factor coinciding to the darkness of the dye). This would add more diversity to transparent blocks, more control over lighting effects in structures, and give more use for color dyes.
With the addition of potentially colored light being introduced for every dye color, it's be nice to integrate it with torches. A recipe to make colored torches with the colored glass block(top), a coal(center), and a stick(bottom) to produce 4 colored torches.
The primary difficulty I see in doing this is creating a way to properly blend the colors of light, as amazing as it would be to have Light from Color A and the light from Color B to make a Color C on areas of the light radius' overlap, I'm not sure if that would be realistic to program.
I would just like to say... this has been suggested many times before and was even made into a mod.
Notch noticed it and he said it would't get in the game.
Yeah? Well, Notch was an idiot who didn't listen to his fans and he's not in charge anymore.
Problem?
I think coloured glass would be fine, not coloured light. Add some dye to the crafting grid when you craft glass panes for a decent and useable crafting recipe.
There have been many threads on Stained Glass. Please search before posting.
