With how the world chunk generation goes, these waterfalls may generate entire landscapes into ruin and flooding areas that the water never intended to be, also collapsing sand banks and what not. They look nice, but water blocks are unpredictable and can create tons of loading problems with how many steaming blocks are generated.
You do realize no matter how many blocks a water source drops, it will still only travel a max of 8 blocks horizontally, so no it cant just flood everything near it.
A while back notch said that water bodies would not all be located at y=65. And they arent. They are somewhere between 64 and 66. When I heard this I thought it would be some 30 block difference between water bodies, but nope. Sometimes we get a glitched pattern when the water level does down by one but thats it.
Epic formations would be pretty cool. But it would only look good if there were water splash animations
if someone can make a waterfall mod which ill try.. they can probably add a animation like a kind of smoke that looks like it...but if i can ill try when i have the time..
Are plateaus a type of biome? If not, they should be. Effectively they would be mountains with sheer verticle surfaces. Then, any water generation could occur on top of these, and produce the required waterfalls.

Anyway, I approve.
Well they're not biomes as of yet, but actually, when there is a generation error due to constantly changing generation code, you can find vertical walls separating the chunks of say a mountain biome and an ocean biome, creating these giant vertical, flat walls. I had never thought before about placing water blocks around them to make them waterfalls, but now I want to do that.
I support this, but I also think there should be much smaller ones to add variety to rivers. In addition to this, I think water should produce more particles the further it falls downwards to make a neat splash effect ;).

I like the idea, but we don't need it, By the picture someone managed to create one, why can't we while playing Minecraft.
It would be a good idea, if it wernt so easy to make anyway....
how does that picture look easy? That does not look easy to make to me...
And thats not the point. The world minecraft generates is supposed to be appealing to the eyes. I think waterfalls fit that category. Plus waterfalls are common in the types of land that minecraft generates anyway
I'd love to see some actual waterfalls in minecraft and not just 1x1, 1x3 streams shooting out of hills, especially "Extreme" hills. If this can be done, I'd also like to see flowing rivers and possibly even (true) lost rivers. (randomly vanish in deserts and other areas) Wait, I'm getting a little ahead of myself and the point of the OP now.
"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.

I agree. This is a great idea, but it is slightly too large for me. Maybe ones this size would be an extreme anomaly, but I wouldn't want waterfalls everywhere, either.
I like the waterfall idea. I don't think the programming would actually be that difficult either. Also, the idea of adding mist at the bottom of waterfalls is great and it would be easy, too. Simply add a graphic effect similar to bedrock level at the bottom of water that drops more than a set height (like 5 blocks).
I really like this idea. I think a waterfall as big as the one pictured in the OP should be insanely rare (around as rare as strongholds), but waterfalls should be common.

It looks like that person had used some custom world generation, I really doubt that was man-made.
Glaciers would really make frozen oceans worth while, never thought of those before
That looks amazing

OMG that would be awesome...

That looks really cool. And yes that'd be an awesome generated structure or biome. However maybe not that big.
Why does everyone think I don't have an avatar? Is there anyone who can see the one black pixel.
