This thread was just to bring some old ideas about plants to light, now that most are on the last few pages. These ideas are not all my own, and I will be updating them.
Trees:
-Trees should randomly drop seeds, which after a few minutes or so, would sprout into saplings. In this way, forest would spread on their own, and clearing of trees periodically would be necessary to keep forts and fields clear.
-Trees should go through life stages, each stage making them bigger.
-Trees should drop fewer seeds when the leaves are mined.
Grass:
-While digging near the surface, there should be a chance of getting a grass block- dirt with grass seeds in it. When placed, it would spread to surrounding dirt blocks like grass does now.
Farming:
-Mushrooms should be able to grow on stone blocks bordered on at least one side by water. Other crops the same, but on dirt. This would make land in survival valuable, because more land means more crops.
Flowers:
-Red flowers should act like a "Spawn Sponge", preventing mobs from spawning in a 5*5 area. They would be rarer then they are now, however.
-Yellow flowers should double/triple the chance of a pig spawning in a 5*5 area. They would also be more rare.
-A pig could occasionally eat a flower. This would add a mushroom to their drop. Then you could farm pigs before brutally murdering them.
-Flowers could act as distractions, drop one while being chased, and enemies would attack it for a second before chasing you again.
Mushrooms:
-Throwing a poison mushroom would release a cloud of spores that does damage over a few seconds to mobs. All mushrooms dropped by poisoned pigs would be poison mushrooms, and all arrows dropped by poisoned skeletons would be poison-tipped. Throwing a brown mushroom would release a healing cloud (would be useful to prevent creepers from blowing up?)
-Dropping a poison mushroom behind you when being chased would cause enemies to attack it for a second, and they would be damaged.
Plants in general:
-Instead of saplings and flowers, when plants are mined you should get seeds. These would be able to be stored without dieing, so you could keep seeds in a storehouse. When placed on a dirt/grass block, they would sprout. This would mean "gatherers", people who went out and collected seeds, could sell these seeds to farmers.
-Seed regeneration. Seeds should randomly pop up around the map, so it wouldn't be possible to say, remove all the red flowers, thus making red cloth rare.
I like it, especially the red flower and mushroom ones. But the poison mushroom needs a use too. Maybe you could drop it, enemies will attack it and be damaged?

I updated with a use for mushrooms :tongue.gif:. I'll add that too, though.
The trees dropping seeds thing would be bad. after a While, the shiny wood blocks to be collected would pile up, adding lag and space you can't build in.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Zombies in the area will have the skin melt away and only their SKELETONS will remain, and they'll shoot ARROWS from their STERNUMS. Creepers will still explode as usual, but their suicide will also release a LAVA SPRING from their REMAINS.
Nice suggestions! although i seem to remember Notch saying poison would not get in the game because there was no way to display weither they were poisoned or not. (I think they should just flash a colour, green or purple. and if you get poisoned, then the screen goes purple or green)

Not ethical? Huh?
