It was planned I don't know how long ago to have snow melt after awhile in non snowy biomes. It's the right time to make it happen. The snow golems leaves messy snow trails that don't melt. Snow cover in climates that don't support snow should melt after a set period of time. Rain should also remove snow.
Other snow related issues
The taiga biomes are too common and the tree spread within them goes right up to the edge of the biome border along with the snow, which is very unnatural. It was better in 1.7 where taiga forests were rare and they may or may not have snow in them depending on what biome they were fused with. The terrain in 1.7 for this biome also was changed for the worse. These biomes are dull and lifeless without the features that made them unique. Now they are just unnatural, and uninteresting. They are literally just a regular forest with different trees and snow on the ground.
My last issue is that snow and ice is already on the ground when you first spawn into the map. Whats the point of having neat snow cover, and ice growth if you have to remove snow to see it happen? I know that the biome changes make it snow in various areas now, but that is hardly an intentional way to show off this feature.
In 1.7 it was never completely covered in snow/ice. The ice in places was often incomplete and upon loading the chunk it would start to freeze over the water. This mechanic is now next to worthless and makes the snow biomes even more uninteresting.
Well hope you agree that these things need to be changed.
You had to make the golems yourself in the first place, so you could place some torches to melt the snow and fence them in? Plus, by seeing which places have snow and ice you can tell if it is a snow biome when it isn't raining/snowing.
Well Snow golems are supposed to turn a biome to a snow looking biome. They did that on purpose so no it done't melt but is not suppose to melt. Hope This Helped. :biggrin.gif:

That's ********. They make ugly trails everywhere, and if SMP players place them everywhere, you get snow trails everywhere that you have to go around getting rid of. It was a planned feature to make snow melt outside of snow biomes when weather came. It should melt with rain. It was supposed to melt with rain since they first released weather systems.
^ I thought that the main point of snow blocks was so that people could have snow that din't melt. I don't see why people must have snow cover that you can't even torch up. If I were to agree with the snow golems distributing snow as an intended feature and support it, they need to make it so that the snow can melt in fractions, so that it doesn't look so god damn awful when torchlight leaves weird cuts in the snow cover. I don't think that's going to happen unless they show a true interest into revolutionizing the components of Minecraft. Again having rain remove the snow fixes my complaints with the snow.
If they did that I would suggest that snow fall in more even distributions around snow biomes instead of falling at their borders. That way it can snow outside the borders to a point and then that snow will melt a day or two later back to it's border. It's probably better in concept than in reality though. Oh well.
The problem is that when the biomes change (as they do sometimes when you restart a server), a snowy wonderland suddenly melts to a treeless dirt desert. It would look horrible.
My server is full of faux snow biomes that got changed to swamp or something.
