The spawn crystal is a block that acts as the world file's spawn point - spawns all players that don't have alternative spawns (eg: beds).
If there is more than one spawn crystal and a player dies, they will be spawned on a randomly chosen spawn crystal.
Spawn crystals can only be destroyed in creative and drop 1 spawn crystal, the data value for them is 999 - as to make replacing them an easy task.
If there is no spawn crystal in the map, the next time a player dies a crystal will form at the last location a crystal was placed or where the map's last set spawn was.
If 2 blocks above it are anything other than air the next time a player spawns on the crystal they will be turned into air.
Please rate this topic up if yout think this should be added to vanilla to make setting spawns easyer without a load of uneccicery plugins, or in singleplayer, mods.

When you first join a server or spawn in singleplayer, there is a set spawn for the whole world, reseting this spawn can be a pain and thats why i came up with this.
I'd be wary about changing blocks to air - you could end up destroying some very important structural features if you're not careful, or if server moderator is feeling disgruntled - but it sounds harmless otherwise.
Seems pretty cool. Add the ability to only get it via creative and admins can set players to certain spawn crystals and you get my support.

Instead, we get beds, which are fine.
I think he means to make it easier to set a starting spawn point for a server, lol.
