Just a simple suggestion: a utility mob that creates a loud sound when it sees a hostile mob, used to warn the player of monsters in their area. It wouldn't attack at all, just sound the alarm.
A recipe could be note block + note block + redstone torch?
Good idea, but I'm sure it would sometimes fail anyway just from the poor programming. It's like dogs. Sometimes I can count on them, but sometimes they go get stuck in a wall.
well you can do 2 things right now. you can cover the whole area by preasure plates and connect it to a note block that can play a tone. you can fence in some snowgolems and you can hear them fire snowballs

2. will detonate creepers all over the place

You'd think so, but I did that to my town. The creepers jump up out of the water THEN explode half the time, causing damage.
