With the new AI guy, pretty soon the NPC's will do a bit more. Here's my idea for the Blacksmiths.
Blacksmiths would be able to make items based on materials that you give them. You would select in a GUI the type of item you want out.
Blacksmiths would have skill levels. Not one that you could view, but one that's there. The more items it makes with different materials, the higher its level gets. The higher the level, the better the items.
There would also be an item called a 'Leveler' near the Blacksmiths. With these you could add levels to the materials you give the Blacksmith, by giving your own levels, in a process similar to enchanting. Again, the higher the level, the better the item. So it depends on both the Blacksmith level and the material levels.
The items that they would make would not be craftable, and would have special effects. Such as a Diamond Great sword made by the blacksmith infused with redstone would blind the enemy for a few seconds, and do more damage than a regular diamond sword. However, it may make you move more slowly.
This is such a great idea, I think that if Jeb saw this he would put at least some of your ideas into action. Keep up the good work with this idea but don't go over the top, that ruins the whole idea.

Seems like a good mod idea, especially for facrions to war over the village, but overall unbalanced. We do not need anymore upgrades, just new ideas. However, I think that something like this coulg work, minus the over-powered weapons. Maybe it creates a tool that can break anything quickly, but have no drops?

This is only kind of related, But I think they should make it so that items crafted with iron, gold, or diamond, you would have to use an anvil. It would look like a cross between cobblestone and iron, if you get what im trying to say.
