Currently the only "utility mob" is the snow golem. but i have been thinking there should be more. One i have thought of is a defender. you would stack 2 blocks of wood, stone, iron, gold, or diamond and then a jack-o-lantern. it would have as much health as you and stay within 30-40 blocks from the spot it was created. it would look like a snow golem except instead of snow the body would be made of the resource you used to make it. it would carry a sword made of the material used to make the defender.Plus it would attack any aggressive mob on sight. Its damage resistance would vary on what used to make it. when it dies it will drop 2 blocks of the item used to make it. If you have any more utility mob suggestions leave them in the comment!
UPDATE: They wouldn't drop pumpkins/jack-o-lanterns and only drop one block
Yeah I agree, you should only get one block back. You shouldn't get the pumpkin back, so you have a good reason to farm pumpkins other than cuz they are pretty.
I dont like the 'pumpkin' heads - maybe some sort of head block, craftable (or found in dungeons) would be used to create mobs? Perhapse:
The bottom block's durability corresponds to the hp of the new mob (and maybe some could have special abilities to stop only obsidian from being used)
The middle block corresponds to the AI - TNT means RUN AT THE BAD GUYS AND EXPLODE, stone could mean a passive, stay where you are until a enemy mob comes your way mob, a wood block might mean follow the creator everywhere - etc.
The top block is the 'mob' block
And any weapon you drop (Press 'Q') into the mob would become the weapon it weilds.
I dunno. What do you think?
