Well I was thinking and wouldn't it be cool if you could actually sit in a chair or couch? Well I sure thought so... I was thinking and I thought it could work just like a bed. Right click and your sitting! :smile.gif: If you like this idea or don't like it. It's fine either way. Please leave feedback in the comments! Any other suggestions about this idea please put in the comments! Thank you guys for reading this post and have a good day! :biggrin.gif:

Look at it this way; if chairs and couches and other types of furniture really fit and worked well with the game, they would have been added by now, since they have been suggested for as long as I've been on this forum (late beta 1.5) and possibly longer than that, and still haven't been added.
Personally, I see no point. You would only sit if you're bored within the game, right? Maybe the only other time is if you're roleplaying, but then, not everyone roleplays, am I correct?

I think it's a good idea. There is too little decoration indoor, and it would be nice in parks outside mansions/castles.

Not everyone uses redstone or potions, yet they are still in the game.
Just because not everyone would use something is no reason to disqualify it as a possibility.
Personally I think wood stairs are shitty chairs, and fenxe+pressure plate is a shitty table. Pistion tables are ok, but really I would prefer dedicated chairs and tables.

Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.

Despite the run on sentence, you have a point. Minecraft is a game. Its a great game, one of my favorites, but its just a game. Not everything in it has to be useful or practical. I personally find that building a cool building is fun, but filling it is a little hard. More decorations would certainly be welcome.
This has been suggested many times and chairs and tables can easily already be made in the game. Sure they don't look super good but does it have to? No. So I believe that this doesn't need to be in minecraft to make it any better.
Meh. I really wouldn't care much either way... The thing is, this would be purely for appearance. Potions and redstone both actually do something. This just looks nice, and I care more about functional elements. That's just me. Then again, adding it wouldn't exactly do any harm, so whatever.
Maybe make sofas just double chairs (like double chests) and make chairs useful for some purpose.
Not sure what though...
Edit: For lack of a better idea, maybe they could be anti-beds. Probably wouldn't set your spawn point, but they would let you skip to night during the day time, as if you just sat in the chair all day.
The lack of furniture is the only reason I'm not playing Minecraft right now. I just find it impossible to make any of my homes cozy with the current 'furniture' we have available. Terraria does pretty well in that area, although I know that a selection of that scale is highly unrealistic in Minecraft.
I just encountered this topic on Getsatisfaction. It's only three different blocks, and it opens for so many different furniture builds. Low chairs, tall chairs, benches, couches, tables of various sizes, different types of shelves, bath tubs, closets, etc.

It's better to ask a stupid question than not knowing the answer.
Paintings serve no purpose other than to be decorative. Until recently Bookshelves didn't have a use at all either. It's entierly possible that they just haven't gotten around to making more decorative items. Chairs and Tables could serve a similar purpose of just being decorative to fill those big empty castles. Just having a place to sit down to organize your inventory would be nice, and tables could be given the purpose of being able to display items. Like when you right click on a table while holding something, it gets put on the table as a display. If there's already something there, you switch it out with what you're holding, and if you're holding nothing, then you just take what's there. I like the idea of making furniture out of either wood, stone, iron, gold, and diamond, which just allows for more customization, and in a game that's half about building, I would hope some customization would be available.
My idea for implementation would be that you craft chair and table blocks, then like chests, they can attach to the same type of blocks adjacent to them. So for example a table crafting would give you, say, 4 table blocks. an individual block would look similar to the extended piston. Placing another table block next to it would make a 2x1 table with legs at each corner. Then more blocks could be added to make a bigger table, or an oddly shaped table. if the table isn't a perfect square or rectangle where you can simply place a leg at each corner and get 4 legs, then I'd suggest that a leg is placed at every corner in the table. So if you make an L-block shaped table, then it'd have 6 legs.
Chairs would work similarly where placing a single chair would make a simple chair as one would expect. Then 2 chairs next to each other would make a love seat, and 3 would make a couch, and so on. Chairs wouldn't be able to be oddly shaped, but could be extended to any length in one direction. They would also reorient themselves like chests if they were facing different directions before being connected. Although it might be better to only have them connect into a couch if they're already facing the same direction, again to allow for greater customization.
I might as well propose crafting recipes as well:
Chair:
Where the wood can be switched out for Stone, Iron, Gold, or Diamond. Also might I suggest Leather as well? Possibly even colored wool?
I think the legs should always be sticks for both chairs and tables, at least for the purposes of crafting. I also think that each craft should yield 4 blocks, as they're mostly decorative anyways, and it's possible to be spending some expensive materials in these crafts, and I don't wanna be spending 12 diamonds just make a decently sized diamond table. I mean simply making any diamond furniture would be a sign of wealth, but you shouldn't have to be that insanely wealthy.

Now Featuring Something Quest! Also, quite a few Minecraft Creations.

What i think. As the chairs would mainly be asthetic, you can build them with stairs. Use your creativity!
Also, if you really wanna use that for roleplaying/filming, you can get a mod, can't you?Well actually more furniture for asthetic purposes might be cool, but being able to sit on them would be pretty useless i think.
