I don't think temperature would add anything to the game. I like the idea of it, especially since it's a "survival" game, but there aren't any mechanics inside Minecraft right now that would lend themselves to the implementation of temperature.

This is just the start of what could be a massive thread, I was also thinking weather, seasons, calenders, time, etc.
I don't think it'll be added though..Just kind of nice to have an idea be praised.
It's a good idea, but it would ruin the game, so here's an idea extension.
Why not have it on in hard mode? Have a bar above Hunger for thirst, and you drink by right clicking on a water source with your hand?? The oxygen meter can appear whilst above 90 blocks, and you get 60 seconds of air? And without a Leather Tunic in Snow areas you will freeze in 10 minutes? But if you have Iron Diamond or Gold on you only get 3 minutes because it's freezing cold! In deserts, you need water 25% more, and you need a Leather Cap or you will get really hot, and are 50% slower, then die in 60 seconds.
Additionally, whilst freezing in the 60 second until you lose HP, the screen in bluish/whitish or red depending on either one.
It would be a pretty good addition to the game, but yeah, it would ruin gameplay and should be turned off if we want, but would add a more Survival type thing to the game...

Cannot run when snowing.
Diving into water will cost you to lost 1 heart every 5 seconds, unless wearing full set of leather armor.
You take less damage from fire.
Dessert Biome:
Cannot run when its day time.
Diving into water heals half heart.
You take more damage from fire.
Mountain Biome:
You move 50% slower at high levels.
Torches are dimmer.
Fire last shorter, unless using netherrack.
In snow biomes, illness would be a catastrophe.
In desert biomes, heat would be a killer.
In extreme hills biome, the lack of oxygen is torture.
These kind of ideas...etc.
I'm thinking of making a massive suggestion about these things, but not knowing how people feel about them worries me that my work could go to waste.
Snow Biome Traits:
You can prevent sicknesses by going near fire
every once in a whileon some occasionsYou starve quicker
You can not run
Desert Biome Traits:
Drinking water bottles replenishes your hunger by 6
Running causes you to get hungrier 2x as fast
Hill Biome Traits:
You take damage every 120 seconds
You can not light/place torches due to lack of oxygen
