There's something wrong with Minecraft. Its not that its lost its values. Its not because of the hunger. Its not because 1.8 and beyond has left us as moaning nostalgic zombies who groan and cry about the good old days.
Its the terrain.
Minecraft for me was a game about exploration. It seemed so fun to see the crazy and beautiful terrain, and see what generated. It was so interesting and cool.
Then the 1.8 world generator rolled along, and we now have very boring terrain. The randomness is gone, along with many biomes, and its all very bland. Every biome is arranged like a grid, and every biome looks the same. :sad.gif: I'm not proposing that we get the old terrain generator back, because...
1) Chunk errors. (perfectly flat stone walls in the sides of hills and mountains that look extremely out of place)
2) The coding of the old biome made it harder to implement new biomes.
I'm simply proposing that we get new biomes.
I found a mod that adds very awesome biomes to the game. It does not add any new blocks at all, it only uses pre-existing ones, but the terrain it creates is amazing. If the features of this mod were implemented directly into the Minecraft vanilla, the game would have new life and it would be fun. We would have a reason to trek across hundreds of blocks just for the aesthetics, nostalgics would be leaking tears of joy, and the world of Minecraft would be much more varied and interesting.
Bonus: Tell Jeb about this mod on twitter. :biggrin.gif: I think I am dead serious about wanting all of these biomes in Minecraft, and I think that Mojang needs to get some people working on it right away (while Jeb continues squashing bugs, of course.). I'm not sure if you agree too. :smile.gif:

No biome looks alike, no seed looks alike, and nothing is arranged on a grid. I'm sorry, but I don't know where you're seeing this.
1) Chunk errors. (perfectly flat stone walls in the sides of hills and mountains that look extremely out of place) Try the seed again, or try a new seed altogether.
2) The coding of the old biome made it harder to implement new biomes. This is true, but has or is being fixed I believe.

New biomes I am for, but you are horribly mistaken on your information about terrain.

Yes, and as amazing of changes it gives to the terrain generator, all it does is make the hills more varied and add taiga. I could be wrong; there might be a few other biomes added, but if all of the biomes were added from the mod I talked about in this thread, then terrain would be truly epic.

I know there was chunk errors with the 1.7 terrain generator. :tongue.gif: Lets hope Jeb is going to add new biomes to the terrain generator later on though. It appears that he definitely is improving upon them.

Does that mod work with the newest snapshot?? >_> *teehee*

Epic for some, many of the biomes in the mod thread are just copies and hybrids of others, only a few actually are very good...also, the latest snapshot also smooths biome transitions and alters their textures.

Thats true, but the green swamps are more aesthetically pleasing than the current swamps, and plus I would much rather have the savannahs and shrublands rather than the plains of the current minecraft. If you're going to go flat, you should go flat. This would get boring, but thats why there will also be very hilly terrain.
Also, the ferns need implementation. :wink.gif:
1.7 is key there...
I was talking about the problems of the 1.7 generator and why it shouldn't be implemented, but it appears that you overlooked the text saying "I'm not proposing that we get the old terrain generator back, because..." so telling me "1.7 is key there..." is pretty redundant. :tongue.gif:
Before I looked at that mod I thought, "Well, the terrain is getting better, let's hope he adds some more to it."
After, "Omfg, why isn't this in the game already ;_; ."

Well, I think biomes need to be unique and interesting.
A green swamp may be interesting to work with, but it's still only a swamp with a different color water. Forest-y islands are still only island biomes with 5x the amount of trees (and even then, many current island biomes have a lot of trees already). The jungle biome and glacier biome are both unique and very interesting, I would very much love to see those.

I agree. Maybe Jeb should consider just making the swamps be like they are in the mod, they look much better than the ones currently in-game. :smile.gif: I really want the glacier biome and jungle biome in the game too.

Probably not, but once the next update of minecraft actually comes out, perhaps it will.
I bet Jeb will be adding new biomes similiar to ones in the mod though, so perhaps we won't require a need for the mod. :biggrin.gif:
