So while i was messing around with redstone an idea came to mind. Why can't you place glowstone dust. It would be pretty much the same as a powered redstone trail but it would be yellow and brighter. I think this is a relatively simple idea but could be used to create cool designs. Here's a quick example i came up with (not the best but should get the point across).
Just wanted to see if you guys agree with me on this one.
I don't get it. So it would be exactly the same as redstone? But brighter? Derp, that'd be kind of useless.
I would think it wouldn't travel current, just be a neat useful light that would be usable without having to destroy a part of your floor or mess up the perfect decor you created that you forgot to put glowstone in. Just neat stuff like that.

Yeah, maybe these can be solely for lights and not energy transmission.
If we're going by logic then we'll say redstone is electric and glowstone is photonic. Redstone can excite glowstone dust to make photons but the photons can't carry the charge on down more redstone.
I was thinking the same thing! When I first got some I tried to place it, but no luck. That would be great for neon signs, arrows to point the way out of a cave, or tunnel, or mine, or cool graffiti on the side of a house.
I love it, and if Mojang doesn't like it then that's another one of their big mistakes. *COUGH* void fog *COUGH* Keep telling people about this, try to get it well-known and maybe it will reach Jebs ear.
I don't like that the only thing it would do is emit light but I can't think of anything else for it to do. However I will always endorse the addition of glowing and/or shiny things.
The only practical use I can think of is to have certain patterns drawn on flat land have certain effects. I think that sounds too contrived. Your mileage may vary.

Well, You can make piston lights where the light is cages until the piston is turned off. This would make it where you could do light shows(festivals of light!).
Maybe even set it up around a dungeon spawner to turn on for modifications.

If NOTCH added this IT WOULD BE COOL! You could have a GLOWSTONE DUST show im multiplayer(And make them pay diamonds or gold or iron :3) I support this
If Glowstone could be toggled on/off by a Redstone current, it would work great for highlighted pathways.
My own problem is that it's kind of ugly to look at. Is there any way to neaten it up a little?
I think if this was added to the game it would have to be 'prettied' up so it would look nicer, may be placed as a straight line. I think the idea it's self is a great one.

I rather like the way it looks in that mock up, and I feel it only makes sense that dropped Glowstone Dust would resemble dropped Redstone Dust.
Has anyone suggested using it as a mob barrier? One that stops, or slows down mobs. Or one that damages the undead who are vulnerable light. ...Or... I don't know. If implemented as a defensive tool, it could disappear after being stepped on enough.

redstone dust can only occupy the top of a block, sooo, signs are out of the question, unless you change the glowstone dust. though it was funny watching everyone exlaim its use would be great for signs... V__V logic fail.

Please add it, Jeb! Please! Maybe you could also combine it with blaze powder to make a placeable dust that burns undead like the sun does if they get near it, say underground or at night. That might be a little overpowered, though.
I think people are getting confused about glowstone dust possible properties. To me i think glowstone dust should not be related to redstone (i.e not be able to carry current) The only resemblance is the look. The possibility of glowstone dust has some really cool potential. It could be used as a path, Decoration, light and it would also be useful for those 'extra' pieces of dust you have left over. One neat thing about having it connected to redstone though is it could be used to light up certain paths, but i think it would be difficult to link redstone and glowstone together.

How can people be confused about something that doesn't really exist? As it is Glowstone Dust has no real properties and we're all throwing ideas of the properties it could have around to see if we can come up with anything Mojang would consider implementing.
It's worth noting that Redstone Ore only turns 'on,' when struck. Glowstone is always 'on.' Something to consider if Glowstone circuits are implemented.

And that picture is awesome.
Infinite wantedness.
Not quite, It wouldn't be powered by redstone it would just be placed and would glow all on it's own.

If it allowed parts of two separate circuits to occupy the same block...the potential is just endless.
