My idea is quite simple, but (in my opinion) make the game quite a bit better.
Minecraft is a game about building. Sure, there are other aspects to it, but you can't deny that building is the main thing that the game centers around, and the main thing that attracts people to it.
All that I'm proposing in this thread are blocks that are purely for building with. With one or two exceptions, all they are useful for is as construction material. They introduce no new gameplay mechanics or anything of the sort. However, I feel that they would make our buildings much more varied and diverse.
Because these would add almost nothing new to the game besides textures, pretty much all Mojang would have to do to add them is texture them.
Smooth Sandstone
Smooth Sandstone is a very simple block. It is simply a sandstone block with the top (smooth) texture on all sides. I know that many people are driven away from using sandstone in anything other than floors because of how it looks, so this would help remedy that problem. Just like cobblestone can be smelted in to smooth stone, natural, rocky sandstone can be smelted in to smooth sandstone.
Smooth Sandstone would be able to be crafted in to Smooth Sandstone half-blocks and Smooth Sandstone stairs.
Sandstone Bricks
Sandstone Bricks are also quite simple: They are the sandstone equivalent of Stone Bricks. They have the same brick pattern as Stone Bricks and would be crafted by putting four Smooth Sandstone blocks in to a square, which would produce four Sandstone Bricks (again, just like Stone to Stone Bricks).
Sandstone Bricks would be able to be crafted in to Sandstone Brick half-blocks and Sandstone Brick stairs.
I was also thinking that as a possible addition, Sandstone Bricks could be used in Strongholds that generate in desert biomes, as opposed to the usual Stone Brick.
Marble
Marble would be a material found deep underground in large clusters (similar to underground dirt and gravel clusters). It would come in two colors: White and black. Other than the coloring, the two are exactly the same.
Marble would be able to be crafted in to Marble half-blocks and Marble stairs.
Marble Bricks
Once again, Stone:Stone Bricks::Marble:Marble Bricks. Marble Bricks are crafted by putting four Marble Blocks in a square, producing four Marble Brick blocks.
Marble Bricks would be able to be crafted in to Marble Brick half-blocks and Marble Brick stairs.
Concrete
Unlike the other materials in this proposal, Concrete is not created as a block. Instead, it is created as a liquid by combining Gravel, Sand, and a bucket of Water. Doing so will give you a bucket of Concrete. Liquid Concrete spreads up to four blocks from the source block, then hardens. It will also hardens after one minute. Once concrete has hardened, it can be mined and moved like a normal block.
Concrete would be able to be crafted in to Concrete half-blocks and Concrete stairs.
Dark Wooden Planks
Dark Wooden Planks are essentially a retexture of normal Wooden Planks. Dark Wooden Planks can still be crafted in to everything that normal Wooden Planks can. However, as you could guess from the fact that Dark Wooden Planks have "Dark" in front of their name, they are darker than normal wooden planks, resembling polished wood. Wooden stairs and half-blocks made from Dark Wooden Planks are also dark.
They would be crafted by turning dark logs (e.g., from Pine Trees) in to Wooden Planks.
Lantern Blocks
Lantern Blocks would be craftable, light-producing blocks similar to Jack-o-Lanterns or Glowstone. They would be crafted by surrounding a Torch with glass, and would look a bit like a vintage street lamp, like what Glowstone is often textured to look like in texture packs. They would give off the same amount of light as Glowstone.
Lantern Blocks could also be used in NPC Villages to replace the current street lights made from Torches attached to Black Wool.
Anyway, thanks for reading. If people like these ideas enough, I might texture some of them. If there are any building materials that you think should be added to this proposal, please say so!

Yeah, it would. Though, the idea of concrete and marble doesn't fit the Minecraft theme.

I don't understand why. Concrete has been around since ancient Rome if you're worried about the (not very clear) time frame of Minecraft.
As for marble, I can't think of a reason why you might not want it. Please elaborate.
I also don't understand why you said that three times.
