It should be alot more simple.
There should be a special server making area, where you just enter a server name, the properties, and there would be a folder you can open to attach plugins. Also, you can choose the IP. If the name and/or IP is already taken, it will inform you

What is it that people are finding so hard about creating a simple Minecrfat bukktit server with port forwarding on it. I am developing my own server and for me it was so easy for me to set up port forwarding there are multiple websites for it. Also you can't just set an IP simple as that it either needs a hoster set up specially OR you run on it on a computer of which you know the public IP for like mine is 99.99.not gona say the rest of it for privacy reasons. Now when it gets complex are the plugins and getting them to work and correspond with each other. It can be very complex but if you take the like week or so to learn how they work you can very rapidly catch on because it is not very complex when you learn how. Now I personally have been working on server for about a month and I have learned many plugins inside and out and will start making videos on it on YouTube, N3rdFilms and I can show you step by step how to set up a server if you want. The main problem with what you want is it simply cannot be done as easily as one would think. Now I get where you're coming from on this idea so that anyone can run a server but I believe that it could be done but shouldn't because these would all be going through the Mojang servers on port usually 25565 and would crash them.

I am a veteran with servers, and I still want them to be easier. They're just so @#$%ing annoying. You have to make a launchserver.command every time and deal with the properties and whatever. If you use Bukkit and permissions, it's even more annoying.
I KNOW very well how to do it, but it's just tedious.
Dont you think if it were possible, mojang would have already added it?
Yes, it is possible, and there are plenty of things we need that Mojang hasn't added. Better native support for Mac and Windows would be nice. Minecraft.app (or .exe) is pretty bad.
Basically, they think that if you're going to run a server, you should know how to use the terminal. It's the stupid Linux community mentality. They don't realize that it would be easier for EVERYONE if they just made the defaults actually work (you have to manually set the RAM usage or else it allocates barely any).

Also, you can't just change you IP like that.
Yes you can. DHCP with manual address.
