I know this has been suggested before a lot of times, but hear me out, m'kay?
I propose the suggestion that the opening of chests are counted as a block update. A small suggestion, probably going to die in a day or two, but it would solve the debate about the creation of trap chests.
Trap Chests is a mod that adds a new block, the Trap Chest, which sends a Redstone signal upon opening. It was very popular, and was suggested to be implemented in the vanilla, but alas, Mojang said no. But then there's block updates.
For all you non-techies out there, a block update is when a block is, well, updated. Destroyed, placed, Redstone updates, and a few more things. but how does this contribute to Trap Chests?
There is a Redstone contraption known as the bud detector, which is a glitch that sends a Redstone signal when a block is updated adjacent to it. (Meaning the edges are touching.) This was used in a Custom Map called Wintertide, played by the Yogscast.
And so... if the opening of a chest would be considered updating a block, then having a bud detector attached to it may as well be a Trap Chest. Huzzah!
Uses could be protection for chests on PvP servers, maybe penalties for opening chests on custom maps, and some that I haven't though up of yet.
Oh, and before you say, "No, cuz dis woud b too hard to code." It's not. Blocks like grass and stone do this automaticly. (Sorry if I offended yah, I know most of the guys on the forum are rather decent at their type.)
Pictures will come soon. Feedback would also be appreciated.
I know a youtuber named keishar or something made the BUP Detector, I think
I wouldn't know, I just found it on the wiki. I was experimenting with it a bit; taking out fires, other things, but chests, sadly, aren't considered updating a block.

Sorry, I'll edit it, then. :tongue.gif:
