(take in consideration that to this date, I have not found a single village in my world, and therefore was forever alone.)
Having human NPCs that you can bring with yourself (throw a bit of gold and there you have It, like taming a dog…) and have around your city/castle. There could be special commands, like “Stay in this spot” or “Patrol this area”(then you drop weapon and armor for him that he’d collect…) and “stay in this area” (you can then select a zone within your fortress where they can walk and not wander off opening doors). My main problem with minecraft is how lonely my little guy seems, building all those castles for no one…
(also the villagers collecting dropped items could work as… walking chests to take into mines)
It would be amazingly awesome if, after building yourself a town/castle you could set of to distant lands in search of residents/servants/brethren. Just the journey home bringing a caravan of NPCs of various kinds would be quite an adventure. I imagine you fighting to get everyone inside a refuge just seconds before nightfall.
There could be several different kinds of NPCs, either roaming or in the tiny villages that you could gather; farmers(put them in a set area and if grass is available they will make tiny farms), warriors, bakers, archers, and simple villagers, young and old to be protected… basically having real functions.
I imagined this the other day as I walked alone on top of my castle wall, looking over the fire pit to the silent and dark watch towers that I build in the dangerous swamp my front gate faced, and now just barely visible in the misty horizon. And I simply wished with all my cubic heart that there were five or six archers patrolling that wall.
It’s not that hard to make I think… except the different skins and stuff (more variations from the current ones… maybe some similar to the player to differentiate from the big nosed ones that exist in the game
… And would make a new game mode possible… siege.(Rare random event, an number of barbarians spawn close to your castle, one hundred blocks or more from a set central point, like a flag of throne that would have to be build... They then converge to it invading the castle using the fearsome ability of breaking doors and slowly setting ladders in your walls). Your resident fighters help you defend it… magnificent…
Or still. A throne as a special item found/build; while it belongs to you it spawns warriors at your command. If the barbarians reach it and one sit on it then it starts to spawn barbarians in a increased pace, maybe even forcing you to escape your own castle…
Also in the matter of castles. A large six blocks door is really missing for the game! (As well as being able to make an inverted stone stair in the working bench—it goes in the ceiling making smoother arches, only need to arrange the blocks in a upside-down stair

I simply cannot avoid thinking about this!
Thanks for the incentive.
