Hey guys, I had an idea today about weather in minecraft, currently with snow and rain, it's fairly light snow/rain.
I propose weather variatiations.
Standard MC rain
light rain
Heavy rain
hurricain wind/rain. pushes the player around, can demolish torches, very rare, can only happen beside large ocean biomes.
flooding
light snow
Standard MC snow
heavy snow
Blizzard snow (50 blocks to 5 blocks sight radius.)
tornadoes (would only happen in plains biome, can only touch down in a 30x30+ flat spot, travel distance of say, 200-500 blocks? tornado would stop if it hits a large body of water, large hills, open rifts, etc. can move into other biomes, but can't form in them. )
Dust Storms (deserts)
Desert Tornadoes Same as standard tornado, but only forms in deserts, sand texture, changes to standard tornado when it hits a different Biome. Both tornado types would break up in Snow biomes (air would be too cold for the tornado to continue/form)
Now, I don't know what the performance implications on this would be, but I can see this having good potential for realism/survival aspect. (blizzards/hurricanes/dust storms damage players over time exposed to the weather.)
If you have ideas to add, please post them. If I like them enough they may be added to the first post, With credit given!
I love this. I've always been one to make Minecraft more realistic after they implemented weather. Maybe someone could make a mod like that, I'd install it in a heartbeat.

way back in the day (shortly after weather was implemented) there was an enhanced weather mod floating around, it was difficult to find though, and fell between the cracks somewhere. I do remember seeing one though.
Standard MC rain
light rain - Why do we need heavy rain?
Heavy rain - Why do we need heavy rain?
hurricain wind/rain. pushes the player around, can demolish torches, very rare, can only happen beside large ocean biomes.
flooding - No, just no.
light snow
Standard MC snow
heavy snow - I agree with this, it will drop 2 snowballs.
Blizzard snow (50 blocks to 5 blocks sight radius.) - Full snow block, drops 4 snowballs
tornadoes (would only happen in plains biome, can only touch down in a 30x30+ flat spot, travel distance of say, 200-500 blocks? tornado would stop if it hits a large body of water, large hills, open rifts, etc. can move into other biomes, but can't form in them. )- On hard only.
Dust Storms (deserts) - Same as desert tornados?
Desert Tornadoes Same as standard tornado, but only forms in deserts, sand texture, changes to standard tornado when it hits a different Biome. Both tornado types would break up in Snow biomes (air would be too cold for the tornado to continue/form)- Same as dust storms?

Light and heavy rain: For Realism
Flooding would be cool, however it would likely require a HUGE rewright to most of the fluid code, so not worth it.
I like your ideas of the modifications from heavy snow and blizzards. the snow blocks should be a new block that cna be walked through, similar to liquids, but doesn't spread, slows down the player/other pawns.
Tornado's and Hurricane damage would be hardcore mode only, on other modes they would simply be aesthetic. tornado's could leave a trail behind.
I would looooooooooooooooooove this mod beacause I looooooooooooooooooooooooove weather. This would be an EPIC MOD. I will try as hard as I can to try to make it even though I'm not to sure I can.
Maybe small, localized, areas of hail during a thunderstorm, they would cause 1/2 a heart of damage every 5 seconds in it, it would also destroy glass and maybe some other blocks, it would also destroy crops (but no carrots or potatoes because they're underground) it would also destroy the ice breaking particle effect over the ground.

weather + Natural Disasters
the disasters would be rare. say, .3% chance of happening?
