I know there are many Minecraft veteran players (since first public release) out there. And I know there are some who still prefer (or at least would like to play) the older versions of Minecraft. Now wouldn't it be great if you could play every single version (even pre-releases) by selecting which type of world from that version in the 'More World Options' menu?
I myself have played since Alpha 1.2_01 and have seen minecraft grow into a great game. While the newer versions have been more fun with each release, I have always wanted to go back to the old days. It would be really cool if there were a button in the 'More World Options' menu reading 'World Version'. Perhaps it will replace the grayed-out 'World Type' button? Just a thought. And by World Version, I don't mean 1.2 to 1.3, I mean 1.2 to 1.2_01 to 1.3. Of course, there would be EVERY version, but that's just an example. And if, for some reason, Jeb or Notch don't have one of those .jar files, I'm sure every version is out there somewhere. The versions with any major bugs would have a waring before making the world stating the bug underneath the button.
Or you could add your own .jars to the game somehow. And versions you didn't have would be grayed out on the 'World Version' button. (Meaning you would have to have the .jar installed before making a world of that type.)
So what do you think?

Some people climb a mountain; others write free software. The so-called 'real world' is for those who can't imagine anything better.
I think it's a very interesting proposal, and I'm keen to see it implemented. However, I don't like the idea of not being able to access the new items, blocks etc. in the current version. But as an early Alpha player I do like occasionally switching back and reliving the past.
I think this is a great idea and that you should have to get the .jars yourself, as a kind of intelligence test. If you cant get the files and put them in the right place, then you don't deserve to use the old buggy versions. Sucks to be you!
