Okay, So I was listening to some note block videos, and I realized that they are kind of crappy. Not because they didn't have hard work put into them, but because all the notes were the same length! If there was a way to create longer notes with note blocks, that would be great. My idea to make this possible would be to put a note block in your crafting box, with a string in it, as well, like so:
Okay, now that some people have posted, Here's what's new:
-- Yoshi 9048 says:
On topic. I actually like the idea, but I think it should have a note duration defined by placing a repeater on the top.
Setting 1 - 1/8 note hold
Setting 2 - 1/4 note hold
Setting 3 - 1/2 note hold
Setting 4 - whole note hold
Perhaps not completely ideal for extended holds, but better than nothing.
I like this idea a lot! It would screw up people's current creations, but that's a minimal problem. Now, if you couple it with this, then it would be perfect:
-- ValkonX11 says (in response to Yoshi):
The string could be used for physical note ties.
For example, if a 1/2 note hold block and a 1/4 note hold block are next to each other, right clicking one and then the other with string will connect them to make a 3/4 total hold.
This seems really great. The only thing is that String alone can't transfer a redstone current. So, another novel item: The Coupler! This is special because when you add string to redstone, it would create a device that hooks together two note blocks in order to create extended notes. It is different than a repeater because it doesn't delay the circuit, and it only links two note blocks, so
-- I was playing with the sound files in the .minecraft folder, and I realized that the notes are simply edited with an in-game modulator in order to change the pitch of the notes. More importantly, a note sound file is simply a *ding* sound. Making it continuous or extended would only cause the note to be stretched out, and you would get a grainy sound, like if you stretched a picture in Microsoft Paint. So, uh, does anyone happen to know the math to make a sound play longer without a grainy, warbly sound?
Actually, saying "no" once as the only response is not allowed.

Possibly.
I'm open to that idea, this would also make possible whole note holds of indefinite length.
What if the noteblock stays on as long as the redstone stays on?
This seems like a good idea, but it would get annoying if you set up a song, but it turns out that you forgot a repeater somewhere :tongue.gif: DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII-*click*-IIING Oh God, that would be terrible...
-- So, I noticed that a lot of people don't like the crafting plan for the slower note block. What is the biggest thing wrong with it? Not enough string? Should be using a different material than string? What?

Let me know what you all think!

Here's another crafting box for the coupler:

I actually do like this idea.
