So I finally got to the Nether (I'm a very slow minecraft player :tongue.gif:) and Ive started making potions. Ive got me a ton of health potion++'s now and I realised they were useless except if I was grinding blazes or I think I may take them to the end to fight the Ender-Dragon. I would starve to death before I died of damage and they take up a space per potion in my inventory. Waiting for the auto regen is better than drinking a potion.
As potions are very late game, a new recipe should be included in the game that nullifies hunger for x amount of time (x = long enough to make me not have to worry about it again for awhile). Or only small y amounts but if it stacked effects (y=4 minutes x number of potions).
This would bring balance to PVP, relieve you from the burden of worrying about hunger and farming animals. Of course you would still have to farm netherwart and glowstone dust.

I personally feel that hunger makes essential that which players would one time go without. If it becomes essential, it is no longer optional, which means that going into a LARGE fight KNOWING it's a large fight without food, you have only yourself to blame. I'd rather carry 3~5 cooked chickens than wasting my time on making an anti-hunger potion myself.
That's why I think that the necessary ingredients would need to be end game. Once youre quest is done and you gathered the essential pieces hunger would be the thing of the past. A new adventurer's problem.
As it is, I carry food with me and keep it on full so that I can duck around a corner and wait to heal if Im in a big battle. I would prefer how ever to just heal 7 instantly. Thats not to say I dont like the hunger bar. Im one of the few and I actually like it and what it brings to the game.
A hunger potion would be the alternative though. I have so much food stored that I never go hungry, I just have to make sure to something every few minutes. This isnt too bad except when I have days of gameplay clocked into a map.
Hunger itself should be completely optional. Hunger hasnt excited me, nor made the game more fun. If someone tries to make the excuse that they wanted the game to be more realistic, then why does hunger heal you from a battle wound? If I graze my knee then I dont suddenly think "Darn it, I need a sunday roast!"

also, yeah your right, in real life you don't just heal from not being hungry. that's why it would be more realistic to heal instantly from eating an apple.
I don't like the current hunger system myself. I personally think there should be added a stamina bar, to balance it out better. Then we could have potions for stamina! (Because hunger potions would make there be no point to finding food later in the game).
