I think that the minecraft team is hurrying along to quickly and not implantating each feature to its best.
My 2 biggest problems are
Better Mob A.I's and Wolves
Ore Generation (link to thread coming soon)
This thread will deal with the horibly crappy minecraft AI system.
First of the wolf AI and spawning sucks horibly, they should better detect large drops and other enviromental hazards to avoid walking into them. Moreover they need not just try to run into the player which has resulted in countless deaths were wolves have pushed someone into something (mabey by making them go to a point close to the player?). They should also be able to get through doors easier, or at least a new "Doggy Door" block or something. They should spawn more often (like packs more packs of 2-6) or at least in a wider range of biomes.
The spider Seing through wall things should be diferint, as of now they can see through any block and at any number as long as its in their detection radius; in my opinion the flavor of this(or whatever you would call it, thats the term in MTG) reason for this would be that they can smell or see hear through walls (maybe feel vibrations) and as such thicker walls or difrent blocks should be harder to "see" through. Their AI (as well as the mechanics) for climbing needs improvement as well, not only does it upset mob traps but its also just not very flavorfull, it stands to reason that a iron block or smooth stone would be much harder to climb up then say, bricks or cobble and as such they should only be able to grip those blocks for varying amounts of time.

Zombies need be able to "hear" player movement or actions, it would be much more chalanging and "realistic".
Creepers need beter pathfinding and "stalking" abilitys, they should be much more sneaky, the smartest of all the mobs...
All the mobs need beter path finding and danger avodiation programs.

well give me a minute and I'll edit in a more lengthy response. I'm half and half. btw i like the way you described the thread. cleaning up is a good way to refer to how the game needs jsut a few little tweks to qualty instead content.

As an over all idea I feel its crucial for Minecraft to upgrade AI. Look at villages for pete’s sake. There are some specifics I think need some beefing up in your suggestion though.
Zombies: hearing is meh… I mean they are brainless undead, but how about a short range of hearing, their own mob FOV, and sneaking lets you actually sneak up on them.
Spiders: if you make it harder to climb some materials then it needs to be easier to climb others you know. Mossy cobble, leaves, natural blocks would be easier to climb then. Also throw in the sneaking thing.
hostile Mobs overall: let them wander into lava at least the skeletons and zombies they have no brains. Other mobs should keep like one or two blocks away.
Wolves: make them have more then two modes. Maybe a bit OP.
Stay (the current sit), sleep (will do nothing at all), sick’um! (hostile to all mobs), round um up (chases animals to you), come (basic follow)
I know villagers will get an upgrade, so I’ll stay away from them.
I skimmed the thread over and I have to say that all AI related suggestions should wait till after Notch hires the new guy who specializes in AI.
Also don't ask for +1s

We haven't seen yet what this new AI-specialist (who I think is now actually a part of their team, since they said he would be joining early-mid December, methinks) can do, and so until they show us anything as far as what this guy will bring to the table, AI-related suggestions are kinda useless.
