You need to find a slime chunk? Well first you need to:
Acquire bones to befriend a dog.
Find at least one slime to collect a slime ball sample.
Right click on man's best friend with one slime ball(will be 'consumed') and he will lead you to the nearest slime chunk, walk to the middle of it and sit(will teleport if a ravine etc.). To end this process and get wolf to be body guard again simply right click to make him get up like regular.
*wouldn't require website/program to find slime chunks
*extra use for wolf
*simple implementation
*balanced and challenging considering you still have to find at least 1 slimeball beforehand.
Even if you find a slime it doesn't mean you know exactly where the chunk is, this would be a great way for certainty.

I suppose that there will be a lot of mobs on the way to the slime chunck, so how are we going to solve that? If there is a creeper along the way, what will your wolf do?
This is a very great idea considering the fact that wolves are currently useless. And I also don't like the fact that you need to go onto a website to locate slimes in your world which is annoying.
Seeing how many slimes spawn in our SMP basement, I would like a possibility to avoid them, too :laugh.gif:
Your idea is neat, it's simple and makes sense.
I suggested some time ago that slimes should leave goo on the ground like snow golems leave snow. That way they would produce their own biome, kind of. I think that both ideas would work together pretty fine, too, since the wolves wouldn't have to find living slimes, just the goo which shows were they have been ( if there are none present).

Well, I would do it during the day time. The wolf would keep going the same direction and ignore any mobs and you would follow and kill mobs if they attack you.
Slimes spawn up to layer 40 now so...not sure if we need this.
The last time I found a slime I dug out a chunk where I found it and found out the chunk I found it in wasn't the slime chunk but the chunk next to it was. They start hopping at you from 16 blocks away so there's a good chance they might leave the chunk they came from.
No, you didn't fix anything. To make it fair and balanced, you have to find a slime in a random cave before you can locate the chunks.
You completely misinterpreted the post. By replacing the "at least 1 slimeball" with "at least 1 wolf," I was implying that wolves are harder to find than slimeballs. And they're harder to manage as well.
